PAYNE 295-4287 Arriving home this past weekend following a two-week vacation, are Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Anderson and family. They toured Glacier National Park in Montana, then onto Bamoff and Lake Louise in Canada. They also visited British Columbia before arriving in Seattle to visit with relatives. After a stop in Eugene, Ore. and another visit, they traveled to the Oregon Coast where they spent several days in a beach house, and tried to enjoy the cold Pacific ocean, but did enjoy the beaches and beautiful weather. Congratulations to Woods Cross Stake Young Adults and their original design and artistically ar-tistically constructed float for the annual Handcart Days parade, held on July 23 in Bountiful. The group spent many days and nights completing what proved to be a beautiful entry, as well as providing entertainment enter-tainment for onlookers. Their "Book of Remenbrance" did not-qualify not-qualify for top honors in parade judging, but will certainly cer-tainly not be forgotten by those who assisted with the project. Happy parents this week are Pete and Sue Cahoon. A daughter, their first, was bom July 24 in the Bountiful hospital. They are also parents of three sons, who were cared for by grandmother grand-mother Millie Cahoon during their mother's absense. The Wayne Westergard family enjoyed a vacation to the state of Washington, where they visited with relatives rela-tives and collected their number three son, Lynn, after he has spent the summer visiting and enjoying a two-month two-month vacation in Vancouver. The Westergards' number two son, Alan, has been working on a ranch in Ririe, Ida. during the summer and will return home in time for school. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Cox and daughters, traveled to Denver this past weekend to visit with former neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Olcott and family who now reside in the Denver capitol. Fourth Ward Scouts left on Monday morning for Camp Steiner for a week of camping and scouting skills. Scoutmaster Scout-master for the troop is Bill Francis. Kim Payne and Gary Bradley of Farmington, accompanied ac-companied by Steve Blood of Salt Lake City, spent the past week vacationing in Santa Cruz, Calif. Highlights of this trip was Oakland Athletic's baseball games, and surfing in the ocean. The threesome stayed with friends in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz. Lee and Margene Pace are grandparents. Their son Neil and his wife are parents of their first child, a daughter. bom July 18 in the Bountiful hospital. She will be named Robin Lee. Following league play for Woods Cross Stake Women's Softball, the South Bountiful emerged winners, and will enter Regional Playoffs August 19, 20, and 21. Team members who are coached by Connie Cleverly are: Mari Lynn Anderson, Sherrie Holbrook, Ruth Payne, Leola Mikkeleson, Ann Ballinger, Peggy Frees-, tone, Marilyn Williams, Rose Cox, Karla Cleverly, Ruth Mikkeleson, Becky Cahoon, Janice Hadley, Kathy Harding, Hard-ing, and Mera Lee Anderson. The Woods Cross City Boys Tennis Tournament was completed on Monday under the supervision of Sandy Smith, instructor. Winners are eligible for the Davis County Tournament to be held August 4-7 in Bountiful. Boun-tiful. In the 10 and under age group, Brad Jensen was winner in singles. Shawn Wickersham placed second. In doubles it was Brad Jen- sen and David Rees, 1st and Shawn Wickersham and Scot Lindquist, second. For the 11 and 12 year old singles, Greg Ballard captured cap-tured the gold medal, with Rodney Evans placing second. In doubles, Greg Ballard and Gordon Kerr were first, with Rodney Evans and Brian Buttars, 2nd. In the 13-14 age group Tom Madill placed 1st, with David Galloway taking second slot. For doubles, David Galloway and Kelly Lee taking first and Tom Madill and Gary Ellis placing second. This is the 7th annual Woods Cross City Tennis Tournament, with first and second place winners each , receiving a medal for excellence ex-cellence and a position in the prestigious Davis County Tennis Tournament. The girls division of the tournament will be played on Thursday morning, with the same awards and the same advancement to county competition. Shanna Cahoon has spent two weeks at Red Cliff, the Girl Scout Camp in Ogden Canyon. Shanna has been very active in scouts for many years and especially looks forward to camp each summer. Wednesday was Recreation Lagoon Day. A bus load of young people left the park for a day of swimming, bingo, a watermelon bust, and dozens of fun things to do. This is also an annual event for the young people. The Baton and Drill girls from the city's recreation program have been especially busy this summer. The smaller parades have been the attraction, with the North Salt Lake celebration on Thursday evening, another of the enjoyable events. Following the parade which proceeded down North Salt Lake Main Street to city park, a baton and drill demonstration demonstra-tion was presented to parents and visitors. Assisting were Mrs. Julie Webb, Jamie Deneris and Jill Bishop all of Woods Cross, in addition to baton and drill students from our city. Heber Valley has been a favorite vacation spot for several families in the area this past week. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ruflin and Mr. and Mrs. Leland Sessions of Bountiful spent time in Midway, while the Rex Kerr family and the Warren Anderson family vacationed several days in tne Daniels area. Woods Cross Recreation Day is scheduled for August 6 at city park. Events will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a children's pet show. Everyone with pets are urged to bring them to the bowery for judging in each classification. Ribbons will be awarded winners. Following the pet show, the Archery shootoff and the Mixed Doubles Dou-bles Tennis finals will be held. These events will begin at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m. a Junior Olympic's demonstration will be held, followed by a baton and drill routine. Big event of the day will be the Davis County Junior High Girls Softball Tournament, with winners from the south end of the county, vying with north end winners for the county title. These games will be played at 5 and 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. at-tend. Refreshments will be available also. |
