Show ; APPEAL FOR AID FOR JEWS. Hunger, Disease and Destitution Confront Con-front Jews in War Zone. New York. The greatest crisis that has faced the Jewish people in modern mod-ern times now confronts that race, in the opinion of the American Jewish relief committee for sufferers of the war, which has organized with Louis Marshall as chairman; Cyrus L. Sulzberger, Sulz-berger, secretary, and Felix M. Warburg, War-burg, treasurer. With the announcement was issued an appeal for funds to assist the committee com-mittee to aid impoverished Jews in the European nations at war. It was stated that more than 9,000,000 Jevrs live within the area of conflict and that 600,000 of them are in the actual war zone in Poland, Galicia and along the whole Russian frontier. "Hunger, disease, destitution in its extremist form," the appeal declares, "confront a Jewish population as numerous as that of Belgium." |
