Show UTAH LEGISLATURE REPUBLICAN Will Have a Working Majority al Next Session. Salt Lake City. The Republicans will not only control the state offices, except superintendent of public instruction, in-struction, as a result of the recent election, but the legislature will also be in control of the Republicans. Though the Republicans will be in control of both branches of the state legislature, there will be a new presi . dent of the senate and a new speakei of the house. President Henry Gardner, Gard-ner, who has been at tne head of the senate for the past three sessions, was defeated for re-election in Utah county. coun-ty. Speaker W. J. Seely of Emerj county was not a candidate for re election to the house and his place was taken by a Democrat. Nine members of the senate retire, on the first of the year and Senator Funk is the only one of the nine who was re-elected. In the house two prominent Democratic Demo-cratic leaders are missing. They are Milton H. Welling of Box Elder and Samuel L. Page of Piute, both veteran legislators. Mr. Welling was defeated for re-election and Mr. Page is now registrar of the United States land office of-fice at Vernal. |
