Her daughter, Virginia has arrived from California to be with her mother. Congratulations to young. Gregory Kielsmier, son of Ralph and Gmia Kielsmier,' who was presented with the Eagle Scout award on Tuesday Tues-day December 9th. Gregory was also awarded the Silver Medal for being an outstanding outstand-ing camper, and went through the ordeal and was accepted into the Order of the Arrow. Congratulations to young Steven Kirkland, son of George and Theda Kirkland, who for his service project in scouting, is supplying Christmas Christ-mas for a needy family in the area and is conducting a drive for clothing, food or toys. On Saturday Dec. 13 the Primary officers and teachers and their partners of the 8th ward, with the Bishopic and their wives, enjoyed en-joyed a lovely Christmas party. It consisted of a delicious dinner, preceded by a social with punch and chips. After the dinner a Christmas program was enjoyed consisting con-sisting of some of the ladies from "The Sweet Adelines," from the Bountiful Chapter, singing to the group, and of Mrs. Van Wagoner telling the story, "The Other Wiseman". The group also enjoyed singing sing-ing Christmas Carols. And on Primary day, Santa Claus himself delighted the youngsters young-sters by paying a call. Santa Claus also dropped in at the Cub Scouts meeting on Thursday of last week, bringing bring-ing treats to the voung scouts of the 8th Ward. Cub Scout leaders are David and Jone Johnson. David was presented present-ed with a certificate honoring him for his 7 years as leader of Cub Scout pack 798 in Centerville. Cen-terville. He was also presented present-ed with a nice box of chocolates. Santa came to leave treats, but he also was surprised with a gift of candy. The Bee Hive girls and members of the Priest Quorum of the Seventh Ward have been busy visiting the people who live alone in their ward, and bringing them a little Christmas cheer. Norlan and Sheron Walker have had a week of entertaining. entertain-ing. One night they entertained enter-tained the Elders Quorum of the 7th Ward of which Norlan is president. The party was in honor of Craig Seamons who was a counselor to Norlan, but he and his wife Wendy have recently moved into their new home in the Ninth Ward. The other counselor to Norlan is Harry Terrill and he and his wife Barbara were present at the dinner as was also Dennis and Susan Browning. Dennis is the secretary of the quorum. The Walkers also entertained enter-tained their study group at a Christmas dinner, and also on another night some school teacher friends of Norlans. Centerville Jr. High School presented a Christmas program on Wed. Dec. 17. Parents and friends were pleased to hear the Madrigal singers of the school and the schools concert orchestra playing carols. The elementary school presented their program on Thursday Dec. 18. The students had decorated each of the rooms for Christmas and parents and friends are invited to come and enjoy seeing them while Christmas Carols are being sung and punch and cookies are served. Students of Viewmont High School are rejoicing over the fact that their school's hockey team is No. 1 in the region. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parrish and Mrs. and Mrs. Olin Sheriff were guests at a Christmas party given by Mr. and Mrs. Don Larson, former residents of Centerville, in their Cottonwood Heights home. On Thursday, Dec. 18th the Primary children of the Fourth Ward were delighted by a visit from Santa Claus. Walter and Arietta Williams celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Sunday Dec. 17. Friends greeted them at their home upon that day. Congratulations go to David Doelling who is chess champion cham-pion of the ninth grade at Centerville Jr. High School, -and to his brother, Jed, who is ' chess champion of the seventh grade at the school. The boys are the sons of Helmut Hel-mut and Gerda Doelling.' Chess champion of the 8th grade at the, school was Ken Rozema, son of Mel and Sherry Rozema. Visiting with the Alma and Eulala Hansen family was Eulala's mother, Mrs. Jos Dalton of Marysvale, Utah. Here to spend the winter months with her daughter and her family is Mrs. Blanche Christensen from Monroe. Her daughter is Mrs. Virginia Kagie. Centerville camp D.U.P. held their Christmas party at the home of Harriet Vance. . Theme of the party was: "Christmas Around the World." Telling of Christmas customs in Germany was Marilyn Home, who had lived there at Christmas time, customs cus-toms in Denmark was told by Margaret and Elva Anderson, in Sweden by Edna White and Esther Rockwood, England by Harriet Vance and Hawaii by Ruth Smith. Story of the First Christmas was told and protrayed by Marilyn Home. Refreshments were served by hostesses Margaret Anderson, Elva Anderson and Harriet Vance after which gifts were exchanged. Kenneth Leon Coleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Coleman will be leaving for the Canada Toronto Mission on January 3. He will be the speaker in Sacrament meeting meet-ing on Dec. 28 in the Centerville Center-ville 6th Ward at 4:30 p.m. |
