Show ' : s i - . ,,11 - " TP" - j. "" ''toWJu!"' v s . L2; ' GS SPEAKERS The annual Neighborhood Holiday Luncheon for Girl Scout leaders was held on Dec. 18 at the Community Church. Everyone enjoyed the pot luck luncheon and the opportunity op-portunity to get together. A SHORT business meeting was held and a Rededication and Investiture of new leaders followed. Special awards Girl Scout speakers at a recent luncheon !' were Lynne Nishijima and Nancy Cook- :' son. were given to Ann Zeigler, Fran Fugate, Fran Spencer and Jeanette Cookson for special help they have given. Special guests were Nancy Jane Balls, president of the Utah Girl Scout Council and Geneva Swartz, executive director of the Utah Council. SPECIAL guest speakers were Lynn Nishijima and Nancy Cookson. f Lynn is the daughter of Ronald and Natsuvev Nishijima of 340 E. Center in. North Salt Lake, and student at Bountiful Hieh School. 6 LYNN, THE president of her Senior Scout troop, was a delegate to the 40th National Girl Scout Convention in j Washington, D.C., which wasn held from Oct. 2fi-.11 She had the opportunity to -i hear the discussions on allowing boys to join the girl p scouts, which was voted downi, partly because the American , Scouts would not then be r recognized by the World , Movement. AFTER their meetings, the J girls had the opportunity to i, visit Williamsburg, Va. which,!, has been restored as it was in Colonial times. Lynn feels that she has had ' a good experience and a lot ol j fun from this trip. NANCY IS the daughter of C.G. and Jeanette Cookson ol 266 So. Ridgeview in Bountiful Boun-tiful and a student at Utah State University. She was one of two National Opportunity Scouts to have the chance to spend two months in Europe this past summer. DURING this period shej saw bits and pieces of Lux-j emborg, France, Germany, jj Switzerland, Denmark. f Sweden, Norway and Iceland. tt The largest part of her stay, was in Sweden and Iceland. , ; WHILE IN Sweden and Iceland she lived with yj families and attended many scout camps. She told of ad- 3 justing to a new way of life, a new language, and a new j area. She also told of many new ,;i and different experiences, and the people that grew so , dear to her. As she put it, "It ir is so hard for me to relay r0j of the biggest months ol myr, life in just five or ten minutes. In fact, to me, it is impossible. I'd need five pr,a ten hours." : j |
