Show White Sox: A Contender? By PETE FRITCHIE Bill Veeck, back in business in Major League baseball as the new head of the Chicago White Sox, will be good for the game, just as he was more than a decade ago with his action, innovations and color. The white Sox win probably become a contender again in the years ahead. Veeck has a way of getting there; he did it at Cleveland and Chicago in the late fifties and sixties. Some of his innovations and color irked league owners in past years; they felt stunts like the hiring of a midget to confound the opposing pitcher and obtain a walk (which he did) was below baseball's dignity. |
