Battered Hulk of Vessel on Its Maiden Voyage is Found Among Breakers, Bodies of Members and Crew Being Be-ing Picked Up Among Debris. Halifax, N. S. The battered hulk of the new lightship Halifax No. 19 was found among the breakers on Li's-comb Li's-comb island, five miles from the mainland, main-land, Sunday. She struck during the dense fog,, which had enshrouded the coast for several days and her crew of twenty-five Scotchmen were lost. Six bodies bearing life belts have been recovered. Both life boats, which the vessel carried, also were found. A search of the little rocky-islands rocky-islands in the vicinity was made in the hope that some of the crew may have been able to get through the surf alive. Word reached the Canadian marine ma-rine department here that the hull of the lightship was broken in two. The ship was on her maiden 'voyage 'voy-age from her builders' yards at Paisley, Pais-ley, Scotland, to take up her station off Sambro ledges, near Halifax harbor. |
