Show Salt Lakers Spend Day In 'New Idaho' Trade Exlenlion Excursionists Visit Beautiful Towns Local' ed Where But' Few Years Jlgo The Coyote Ruled MARVEL AT WONDERS OF IRRIGATION PROJECTS. (From The Herald-Republican.) Twin Falls, Ida., Sept. 11. Alternating Alter-nating pleasure with commercial talks was the program for the third day of the Salt Lake Commercial club trade extention excursion. Eight Idaho cities were visited and as the day progressed, the Utahns became more and more amazed at the achievements of the Idaho people. With exception of Oakley, the communities com-munities visited represented New Idaho. As if forced by the hand of a magician, cities have sprung into being where but a few years ago the coyote held undisputed sway. Mod ern cities these, not a grouping of shacks, but owning substantial buildings, build-ings, paved streets, costly public edifices ed-ifices and up-to-date schools. Upon arriving at Rupert, a thriving thriv-ing young city located on the famous Minidoka Government project. An impressive ceremony was held. The party marched to City park, where four years ago Fisher Harris planted plant-ed a Carolina popular during the first trade excursion of the Salt Lake Commercial club. An American flag fluttered on the top branch of the tree while the party uncovered. With heads bared the Sat Lakers listened while J. E. Caine paid Harris Har-ris a heart-felt tribute. The band played "Auld Lang Syne" and the buglar sounded taps. The Rupert Commercial club members joined in the tribute at the suggestion of President Pres-ident F. N. Victor and Secretary J. N. Shaver. The visitors departed marveling at the achievements accomplished and opportunities open to settlers in these fertile soils o,ly five years from sage-brush. |
