On Tuesday evening the opening meeting of the Y. M. M. I. A. was held. The main part of the program was a debate. The question: Resolv ed that a law should be passed prohibiting pro-hibiting any person to marry before they are twenty-five years old. Dora Day and Ira Cox had the affirmative affirm-ative and Mrs. Burns Cox and C. P. Olsen the negative. Both gave very good arguments but the negative side won the debate. After the meet-all meet-all went to the Pavilion where a comic auction was held. This was followed by a grand ball. Punch and cakes were sold. The evening was s success socially as well as financially. The M. I. A. will give another party on Hallowe'en. The home dramatic will also present a play for the benefit of the Mutuals early in November. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bell of Glen-wood Glen-wood visited relatives and friends at Fairview the past ten days. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Nordstrom left this week for Idaho where they ?o to make their future home. Mr. Ezckiel Chene- was brought home from Omaha last week ill with typhoid fever. Mr. Cheney has -peat the past two months in Omaha -eceiving and shipping fruit ar.d contracted typhoid while there. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Briggs went to Garfield this week where Mr. Briggs h:is emplovment for the winter. Mrs. Nels Johnson of L'lsinore spent the week with her mother, Mrs. Buchanan. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Holman came home from Garfield on account cf che illness of Hyrum Mower. Hyrum Mower was operated upon for appendicitis at the Winter's hospital hos-pital last week. Although it was a serious case but he is reported to be slowly improving. On Oct. 10th, a party was given at the home of S. S. Sanderson in in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Nordstrom. The evening was spent in music, singing and games. Refreshments Re-freshments wt-re served. Those present pres-ent were: Messrs and Mesdames, John R. Graham, James H. Sander son. Martin Nordstrom, Hans P. Hansen, A. U. Miner, H. W. Sanderson, Sander-son, Hans Madsen, Mrs. Bruce Cox, Mrs. Carl Sundwall, Mrs. H. S. Olsen Mrs. Maggie Sanderson Mary W. Sanderson, Maggie Bell and Mrs. Vern Sanderson. The Ladies Literary Club met at the home of Mrs. James H. Sanderson Sander-son Oct. 15th. After an hour of needle work a spirited meeting was held. An interesting program was given after which the ladies discuss ed joining the State Federation of Women's Clubs. |
