Show rJIoroni Local Farmer's Rites Monday Funeral services for Sherwi.i Laun Blackham, 67, farmer were conducted at 1 p. m. Monday Mon-day in the Moroni West ward chapel by Ray P. MeKinnon. bishop. Burial was in the Mo roni city cemetery under direction direc-tion of Jacobs Mortuary of Mi. Pleasant. Mr. Blackham die 1 in a Salt Lake hospital Friday after an extended illness. He was born in Moroni, March. 16, 1882, a son of Willard and Mary Petersen Blackham. He attended local schools and was a member of the L. D. S. church He had never married. Survivors are a sister and three brothers, Mrs. Eva B. Bai-I Bai-I ley, Willard, Ace and Earl Blackham, all of Moroni. The opening song at the funr al service was sung by the combined com-bined East and West war.i choirs. Bishop James Nielsen offered the opening prayer. The first speaker was Ralph Anderson end this was followed by a duet ;ung by Mr. and Mrs. John Guv-mon. Guv-mon. VerNon Blackham was the second speaker and he was followed fol-lowed by Harold Chnstensen I singing "Beside Still Waters." The closing prayer was given by Leonard'Eliason and the clos ing song, "I Need Thee Every Hour" was sung by the cho'v. Heber Christensen dedicated the orave. Pallbearers included five of Mr. Blackham's nephews: Dcn- nell, Max, Warren and VerNon Blackham and Kenneth Sorensen and Joseph Revill. A farewell program for Elder Burdell Dyches will be held tonight to-night (Friday) in the East ward chapel at 7:30 o'clock. Elder Dyches is scheduled to report to the Mission Home in Salt Lake Monday morning, for assignment to the North Central States Mission. Me.mbers of the Junior Sorosis Club and their husbands were entertained at a Thanksgiving party Sunday night at the home of Mrs. Harold Arnoldson. Mrs. James Anderson and Mrs. Eavl Tidwell were co-hostesses. A Thanksgiving supper was served by the hostesses, after which progressive rook was played. Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Kelson on high score prize and Mrs. Urwin Morley won traveler's prize. , Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. George Faux, Mr. and Mrs Ford Faux, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Laur-ence Kelson, Mr. and Mrs Morgan Morg-an Lamb, Mr. and Mrs. DerMont Madsen, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Urvin Morley, the three hostesses and their husbands. The Jr. Sorosis Club met Wednesday Wed-nesday night in the home of Mrs. Dora Morley. A hot lunch was, served, ai'tei which the members enjoyed a program. Mrs. Ray McKinnon, Mrs. Olive Oisen and Willord Olsen were in Salt Lake city on business Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs. Helena Olsen's home was the scene of the West ward Primary preparation meeting last Friday afternoon a week a- Mrs. Olsen was m charge- of the meeting and introduced Mrs. Afton Anderson, who gave a lesson on "Physical Traits of Boys and Girls from Four to Twelve Years of Age". The women made 30 baskets for Thanksgiving distribution and refreshments were served bv the hostess. "Mrs. Venice Anderson was a special guest and 18 Primary teachers were present for the meeting. Last Monday afternoon's Primary Pri-mary meeting consisted of a Thanksgiving program. Mrs. Fannie Larsen and Mrs. Eulala Bulow presented a musical musi-cal comedy and Mrs. Izla Biackham told a Thanksgiving story. The Primary children ther went around to more than 30 homes where Thanksgiving baskets bas-kets of candy, fruit and nuts were, left with shut-ins and persons per-sons over 70 years of age. Members of the Ladies Litor ary Club were entertain --d Wednesday evening in the home of Mrs. Uarda Blackham Scott Passey of Mt. Pleasant, soil conservationist, was in charge of the program. Mrs. Blackham served a dessert des-sert course at the close of the evening. Cards were played with high score being won by Mc. and Mrs. Clifford Bradley, low score by Mrs., Lynn Peterson and Ike Sorensen and travelers prizes by Mrs. Mary Blackham and Mrs Ike Sorensen. Weekend guests at the Clifford Bradley home were Mrs. Helen John, Joy Neilson of Provo and Mr. and Mrs. Milton Blackham of McGill, Nevada. |
