Show jl SPRING CITY I : 1 By Special Correspondence 1 At the annual Old Folks party par-ty in the ward recreation hall, held Thursday, a hot dinner was served to more than 200 guests. The tables were decorated in the Valentine theme with large red rose bouquets. Large "angel food cakes were decorated in Valentine designs and for the centennial theme. The place cards, table favors, and napkins were in the Valentine decorations. decora-tions. Bishop E. B. Terry presided at the program which followed the dinner. Especially honored were the four eldest people in attendance: Mrs. Mary K. All-red, All-red, 87, Mrs. Elizabeth Larsen, 87; John Davis, 84, and William E. Robinson, 84. They were presented pre-sented with large beautiful, boxes box-es of Valentine candy. Other features on the program were: Square dancing by the following Fourth grade students: Rochelle Sorensen, R. D. Strate, Gordon Madsen, Mary Louise Sorensen, Gary Christensen, Ted Crisp, Seth Petersen, Gloria Nunley, Sherman Strate, Ver-ene Ver-ene Jensen Colleen Clark, Glen Sorensen, Venoy Hansen, Karen McKinney, Tommy Allred, Perry Per-ry Dye, Gerald Schofield, Carla May Terry, Venetta Petersen, Annette Aiken, and Jeniel Blain. Mrs. Rose Schofield was.the instructor. the Junior high school girls chorus sang two numbers under un-der direction of Mr. Terry. The girls are: Marilyn Christensen, Noreen Acord, Shirley Schofield, Mehl Rae Draper, Ruth Ellis, Carol Terry, Donna Bunnell, Rose Crisp, Myrl Rae Sorensen, Mary Joy Justensen, Joan Ball, Joyce Sorensen, Lois Beck, Mar Rae Blain, Neva Beck, Carol All-red, All-red, Eathel Terry and Earlene Hansen. Several old time songs were sung by D. U. P. members: Mrs. Ada Allred, Mrs. Ella Carlson, Mrs. Eva J. Allred, Mrs. Hazel Hansen, Mrs. Sarah Justensen, Mrs. Geneva Justensen, Mrs. Vanda Petersen, Mrs. Ruth Osborne, Os-borne, Mrs. Helena Bunnell, Mrs. Olive Coleman, Mrs. Jean Puzey, Mrs. Hannah Mickel. They were dressed in Pioneer costume. Mrs. Helena Bunnell read an article published in one of the first Deseret News papers. Miss Helen Squire of Mt. Pleasant sang a vocal solo. She wa's accompanied by Miss Patsy Schofield of this city. Mrs. Eth-elyn Eth-elyn Andersen, Mrs. Olga Black. Mrs. Dorothy Clark, Mrs. Edith Brough, Mrs. Edna Barney and Mrs. Athene Osborne, directed by Mrs. Helen V. Madsen, presented pre-sented a one-act play. Two vocal vo-cal solos were sung by Glade Petersen, accompanied by Louis Peterson. Both young "men are from Fairview. Dressed in pioneer pio-neer costume square dancing was given by: Mr. and Mrs. John Petersen, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Allred, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Allred, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Cris-toffersen. Cris-toffersen. The caller was Elgant Covert. The song, "Utah Trail" was sung by a male quartet, E. B. Terry, Louis Allred, James F. Ellis and Frank Hansen. In charge of the day's activities activi-ties were: General chairman Lester Acord; chairman of the dinner, Mrs. Reid H. Allred; program committee, Bishop E. B. Terry, Mrs. Angus Black and Mrs. Doyle Madsen. Standinr committee: Bishcp and Mrs. E B. Terry, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Draper, 'Mr. and Mrs. Royal All-red, All-red, Mr. and Mr-. Doyle Madsen. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Acord, Mr. and Mrs. Reid H. Allred, Mr. and Mrs. Angus Black and Mr. and Mrs. James F. Ellis. Many former residents of this city came to attend the party. From out-of-town. Mrs. J. Christensen Chris-tensen and small son of Mt. Pleasant, also Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Allred, Mr. and Mrs. Bent Petersen Peter-sen of the Manti temple, Supt. and Mrs. Ball of North Sanpete School District and many other oth-er guests. Mrs. Floyd Draper returned home Saturday from Salt Lake after being in the L. D. S. hospital hos-pital for several weeks, following follow-ing an operation. Mrs. Mary B. Ellertson, age 78, passed away at Spring City, February 10, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Maria J. Allred She was born October 16, 1S6S it Spring Citv, a daughter of Neils H.'and Anniken E. Larsen Borresen. She was the wiriov. of John Ellertson. They were married on March 8, 1902 in the Manti L. D. S. temple. Surviving are one sister. Mrs. Maria J. Allred of Spring City, and the following neices and nephews, Vance Allred, Mrs Jennie A. Brotherson. Mrs. Odessa Odes-sa A. Jensen of Spring City: Ed-son Ed-son Allred. Tooele; Leslie Allred. Moroni, and Mrs. Vay A. Brotherson Broth-erson of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the ward chapel for Mrs. Mary B. Ellertson. Floyd Draper of the ward bishopric, presided at the services. The opening song. "Beautiful Home" was sung by the ward choir. Invocation. H. William Peterson. "O My Father" was sung by Mrs. Vance Allred, Mrs. Odessa" Jensen. Mrs. Eva Korgi and Bob Wort hen. neices and nephew of Mrs. Ellertsen. The first speaker was John S. Blain. Interment was in Spring City cemetery under the direction of Ursenbach funeral home. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Allred of Provo visited over the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Royal Allred and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Justensen. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Larsen of Fairview and their family spent Sunday at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reid H. Allred. Mr. L. W. Aiken, Mr. and Mrs. Vero Aiken and Mr. ajid Mrs. Archie Aiken visited Sunday in Redmond with their relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Petersen and family. Mr. L. W. Aiken will remain there for a ' few weeks visiting his daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Aiken were Salt Lake City visitors Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wilkey and children were business visitors in Salt Lake City the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Barley and small son Ray, former residents res-idents of this city, but now living liv-ing in Sheridan, Wyoming, are visiting their relatives and friends here. They made the trip down by plane. The monthly ward Primary meeting for the officers was held Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Nellie Blain. President Pres-ident Eva Ericksen was in charge. The Primary ward conference con-ference was planned and outlined out-lined for the various groups. Mrs. Olga Black presented the Teachers Training lesson. After the meeting they enjoyed an hour of playing games at which 1 prizes were won by Mrs. Ivaj Aiken, Mrs. Eva Ericksen. The ward Primary officers have completed canvassing the city for birthday pennies, to be sent in for the Primary Children's Chil-dren's hospital. The amount of money collected was very good. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Allred had as their visitors over the weekend, Mrs. LaVern Blain, Jay Blain and Ercel Blain of Bountiful. Boun-tiful. Jay has been in the Navy for a year, having seen overseas over-seas service, and is now home on leave. Miss ElVerna Carlson, employed em-ployed in Salt Lake City, visited at home over the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. De-lone De-lone Carlson. Milliam E. Robinson is ill at his home at the present time. Mrs. Ida Radditz and children of Cedar City are visiting her father, John S. Blain. Mr. and Mrs. Neldon Jensen of Ephrairh visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lamont Jensen the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Goetfry Larsen are the proud parents of a baby boy born Mednesday at the hospital hos-pital of Dr. G. B. Madsen in Mt. Pleasant. This is their fourth child and second son. The mother mo-ther was Miss Etta Johansen of Mt. Pleasant. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Larsen of Logan visited the past week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs Vivian Larsen. Mrs. Erma Norman of Mt. Pleasant was a visitor recently at the homes of her brothers, Glen Nunley and Leslie Nunley. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schofield was in Salt Lake City over the weekend to visit their daughter Rosalie who is receiving medical treatment in the St. Marks hospital. hos-pital. The sons and daughters of Mrs. Mary Sorensen honored her at her home on Monday. The occasion was her fiftieth wedding anniversary. Her husband hus-band has been dead for severa' years. A lunch was served after af-ter which they enjoyed playin progressive rook, with Mrs. Eva J. Allred, Leon Allred and Reid. H. Allred winning the scores. The ward M. I. A. Green and Gold Ball will be held in the ward recreation hall in the near future under the direction of the M. I. A. officers: Mrs. Lavon Allred, Mrs. Edith Schofield, Mrs. Emma Sorensen, Virgus Osborne, Vernal Christensen and Newton Donaldson. The Queens to be voted upon are: Miss Viola Allred, Miss Thelma Osborne, Miss Betty Lou Pherson and Miss Colleen Crisp. A large cougar was baggec ana brought to town Thursday. The animal was very fierce and fought the sportsmen at their attempt to capture it. The animal ani-mal was caught in a coyote trap set by Hugh Downard, a mile south of the Power house in Oak Creek canyon. It was a large female cougar, weighin' around 150 pounds and measured eight feet in length. Assisting Hugh to bring the cougar to town were: Royal All-red, All-red, George Downard, Joseph F. Hansen and Allen Hansen. They tied the feet of the animal, nauled it in a sleigh to Mr. Downard's car where it was fastened fas-tened securely and taken to the Downard home. The school children and many townspeople visited there to see this wild animal of our local hills. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Garrow of Wilmington, California, and their small child are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Pe-ter Christofferson for a few weeks.
