Show j SPRING CITY I By Special Correspondence Mrs. Sarah E. Allred reached I her seventy-fifth birthday Friday, ; Sept. 1st. Many friends and rela-1 ; tives called to celebrate her birth- ! j day. I 1 She was born in Ball Ground, ' Georgia September 1, 1S69, a daughter of John Henry and Sarah Sar-ah Jane Miles. When she was six years of age the family : moved to Alabama. There they joined the L. D. S. church" and : moved to Utah to join the Saints when she was 18 years of age. i Mrs. Allred married William : Hackley Allred. They moved to Roosevelt and Myton to live after 1 several of married life. Mr. All-i All-i red died there. She moved back to Spring City where she has since resided. She has two living children, Mrs. Cecil Elmer ot Hooper, Utah and Wesley Allred of Roosevelt, Utah. There are 17 grandchildren. Five gradnsons are in the Armed Forces with four overseas. Mrs. Allred has always been a faithful church member and worker, having served for many 1 years as a Relief Society visiting teacher. She is a hard worker for a lady of her years, making many quilts, raising many berries, ber-ries, apples, other fruit and large flower and vegetable gardens. Mrs. Aurelia Madsen left Thursday Thurs-day evening for Aurora, Utah. She received word that her mother, moth-er, Mrs. Stena Allred, 90 years of age, had fallen and broken some ribs and injured herself in falling. fall-ing. Mrs. Allred is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Cedena Cloward there. She recently visited a daughter, Mrs. Elmira Aiken in Salt Lake City and Mrs. Myrtle Hansen at Evanston, Wyoming. Lorenzo Aiken and Mr. and Iviis. Vero Aiken spent Saturday in Provo. They were called there at the death of Dr. Evan Aiken, who had ben seriously ill at a Provo hospital for eight weeks. Dr. Aiken was the son of Lorenzo W. and Mary Jane Neilsen Aiken and was born in this city. He has lived in Provo for some years where he had a large practice. prac-tice. He married Ruth Lund of Fountain Foun-tain Green, who survives him, also four children; also Vero Aiken and Archie Aiken of this city. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in Provo. Many relatives from this city attended. at-tended. The members of the K. K. club were guests of Mrs. Neva Dye at her home Thursday, the occasion occa-sion being her birthday. Mrs. Helen M. Madsen was hostess Friday 'afternoon to the members of the Lititia Fedelia club. Mrs. Grace B. Allred, Mrs. Thelma Thel-ma Madsen, Mrs. Ada Allred, Mrs. Ida Billington were special guests, also Mrs. Ester Wade of Salt Lake City. The afternoon was spent in playing progressive rook. Prizes were won by Mrs. Lavon Allred, Mrs. Etta Larsen, Mrs. Ada Allred and Miss Geneva Strate. Mr. and Mrs. Cutler Schofield and family were visitors in Salt Lake City for several days. Alden Blain and son, Ursel spent a few days in Spring City on business and visiting relatives and friends. While here Mr. Blain sold his home to Ferd Clark. Miss Twila Blain of Clear Field was a visitor Saturday and Sunday Sun-day at Spring City. Mrs". George Allred held a quilting quilt-ing party at her home Wednesday afternoon. Several guests were invited. Mrs. Evan Mortenson of Murray Mur-ray was a town visitor for several days. She visited at the home of Mrs. Charlotte Olson and Mrs. Royal Allred. Mrs. Christena Bohline reached her eighty seventh birthday Saturday. Sat-urday. She is active for her years and has a wonderful memory in ; recalling the vast amount of experiences ex-periences of her earlier years. Mr. and Mrs. Malen Drage of ' Provo and their daughtef spent ' Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marsden Allred. At the monthly union Meeting Sunday Mrs. Clara Beck and Mrs. Sarah Justesen were selected as Stake Home missionaries. Mrs. Eva Barton and son, Rus-sel Rus-sel Barton of Kaysville was a recent re-cent visitor in this city at the home of Mrs. Blanche Winkler and Mrs. Ethelyn Anderson. Lt. Barton recently returned from three years service in India. , Mrs. James F. Ellis entertained a large group of friends at her home Friday evening, September 1 for her husband's birthday. Mr. Ellis was the former Bishop of this ward. He has been very active ac-tive in the church organiations, having served as M. I. A. President, Presi-dent, Sunday School and Mutual teacher. He was active in the Priesthood Quorums, and he is now in the Stake High school and a member of the ward cnoir. The ward Primarysponsored a dancing party and exhibited, many articles of the ehildrens', summer handiwork. President i Mrs. Eva Erickson, who recently I returned from New Mexico and i Washington, told the children of some of her experiences. Stake President Mrs. Elva Allred and i Bishop E. B. Terry also spoke. Refreshments Re-freshments were served to a large group of children and their parents par-ents and families. Reid H. Allft-d will be the new principal of the local Junior High school. He succeeds James H. Blain, who is not teaching this yea:-, due to ill health. Mr. Blain has taught in the local lo-cal schools for many years and several years as Principal of the schools. Mr. Allred will also be Principal of the Elementary Grades. The teachers for the year are: Mrs. Helen M. Madsen, Arthur O. Neilson, Mrs. Eva Erickson, Mrs. Vera Downard, Mrs. Jessie Scho- i field, Mrs. Rose Schofield and ' Mrs. Christie Bunnell. The Y. M. M. I. A. was recently reorganized as follows: President, Presi-dent, Vance Allred; Counselors, Ted Jensen and Curtis Allred. Former officers were: Ralph Christensen, Curtis Allied and Vance Allred. Mrs. Mary Jensen has been a recent visitor at Provo, visiting with her son, Wardlow Jensen and family, who live there. The local Canal Creek Branch of the D. U. P. held a social Monday Mon-day afternoon, honoring city residents, resi-dents, seventy years and over, having recent birthdays. Mrs. Ruth Osborne, Mrs. Hannah Han-nah Mickel and Mrs. Minnie D. Barney, were in charge. The program pro-gram was as follows: Community singing; prayer, by Chaplain Mrs. Charlotte Olson; song, Mar Rae Blain, Neva Beck, Sherleno Allred Jand Shirley Schofield. The lesson, les-son, "Pioneer Markers," was given giv-en by Mrs. Helena Bunnrll; piano 'solo, Noreen Acord; reading, Mrs. Mamie Allred; okes, Neva Beck.
