The future seems to hold great expansive possibilities with these leaders attempting to justify justi-fy their demands that all surplus sur-plus radio equipment he made available to the schools in order that they might expand this radio educational movement. Army Oil Consumption A recent release of total figures on gasoline used in Europe indicates in-dicates why gas rationing has been necessary. Between the invasion in-vasion of Europe and the defeat of Germany, the Army Transportation Trans-portation Corps delivered 1,645,-145,840 1,645,-145,840 gallons of gasoline, oil and lubricants to forces on the European Continent. More than 80 per cent of this was 80-octane gasoline of the type commonly used by motorists; 15 per cent was aviation gasoline, and 5 per cent was lubricants and oils. The Army has said that e-nough e-nough gasoline was involved to drive every motorized vehicle in the world, as of 1941, from New York City to Chicago. Mail To Navy Men With the ever increasing number num-ber of Navy men in the Pacific comes the ever increasing load of mail. It has been found necessary neces-sary to prohibit the mailing of newspapers and magazines to Navy Men overseas unless specifically speci-fically requested by the men themselves. It is estimated that this restriction restric-tion will release about 1,500 men to handle letter mail. Pieces of mail handled by the San Francisco Fran-cisco Fleet Post Office has more than doubled since May 1944.-Ship 1944.-Ship stores from now on will be stocked with magazines for the boys. Farm Machinery For Veterans The War Food Administration recently gave veterans a special preference priority in the purchase pur-chase of farm machinery and equipment, except repair parts. Applications for machinery are to be made to the county agricultural agri-cultural committee. |
