Marine Service Enrollment Enroll-ment Increases As Draft Draws Near For 18-19 Years The President of the United States spoke last Monday night, Oct. 12, and evidently a great number of 18 and 19-year-olds were "tuned in" and heard F. D. compliment the bravery of the men of the Merchant Marine, and stress the importance of the vital cargoes they were taking through. At any rate, since the Presdent spoke, more and more 18 and 19-yea.lolds 19-yea.lolds are enrolling in' the U. S. Maritime Service. The opportunity of being able to go to a U. S. Maritime Service training school together to train for a career in either the Deck, Engineering, Radio or Steward departments and after completion comple-tion of the training course, the excellent chance of "shipping out" together appeals to these gallant young sons of America who have fought side by side on athletic teams and now are desirous de-sirous of continuing their "team work" for the cause of the good old U. S. A. The 40 to 100 per cent war bonuses, in addition to base pay, also appeals to these viril youths who are anxious to get in and get it over with so that they may continue their Maritime careers in waters that are "peacefull." Parents signing age consents appear extremely pleased that their. sons are going into a Maritime Mari-time school to train for a career, where base pay for the various positions ranges from $100 to $350 per month. Before each new tanker or cargo car-go ship can take its place with the new VICTORY FEET, trained men must be ready to step in as a complete and competent crew. It is mandatory that all men without sea experience be trained train-ed three months prior to "launching "launch-ing time" of each new VICTORY VESSEL. As our Merchant crews acrue---so shall our VICTORIESI To be eligible to train for these high paying positions, men must be between 17 years 18 months, to 35 years of age. After a man has had 14 months sea-time to his credit, he is eligible for enrollment en-rollment in the Maritime Service Officer School where age limits are between 19 and 40 years of age. Applicants may enroll and take their physical examinations at U. S. Maritime Service, 433 U-tah U-tah Oil Building, Salt Lake City. |
