Show 1 I I SPRIKG CITY ' I Bv Special Correspondence ' Mrs. Verlettie Clawson Dahl Passes Away at Spring Citv Mrs. Verlettie Clawson Dahl died at her home in this city, Monday morning at 10:45 of a heart ailment. She was born at Spring City. July 18, 1847, a daughter of Chritian and Margaret Chris-tena Chris-tena Larsen Clawson. On December 21, 1892 she was married to Niels N. Dahl ann on December 21, 1942 they celebrated cele-brated their Golden Wedding anniversary. an-niversary. She is the mother of five children, chil-dren, one of whom, Mrs. J. C. Thompson, preceded her in death. Besides her husband, Niels N. Dahl of this city, she is survived by one son and three daughters, Mrs. George E. Rach-ham, Rach-ham, Ogden; Mrs. H. Revere Robinson, Paragonah; Mr. Rulon N. Dahl and Mrs. Harold Mickel of Spring City. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, grand-children, 9 great grandchildren, three brothers, Claus 'Clawson, Murtaugh, Idaho; Oscar Clawson, Claw-son, Salt Lake City; Eldredge Clawson, Union, Utah; and two sisters, Mrs. Peter Christofferson, and Mrs. Hyrum Jensen of this city. Funeral services are to be conducted con-ducted this Friday at 2 p. m. in the Spring City ward chapel by Bishop E. B. Terry. Burial will be in the Spring City cemetery. Students, who graduated from the Ninth grade of the Junior high school Fridav, were Yvonne Aiken, Leila Ruu?' Allred, Lila Lee Blain, Sherma Allred, Lu Dean Madsen; Ruth Nunley, Maxola Olsen, Dorthy Crisp, Golden Dean Terry, Roger Neil-son, Neil-son, Jack McGerty and Ted Dahl. Student honor scholarship students stu-dents were, Yvonne Aiken and Leila Ruth Allred. Mrs. Rose Schofield and small daughter, Rosaline are going to Minneapolis, with in the next week to visit relatives, Dr. and Mrs. A. T. Rasmussen and plan to attend MayoClinic at Rochester, Roches-ter, Minnesota. The Guide Primary Boys graduated grad-uated from Primary Sunday in Sacrament meeting. The boys graduating were: Franklin Jensen, Jen-sen, Glen Osborne, David Earl Sorensen, Philip Strate, William Earl Sorensen and Kenneth Thompsen. These boys repeated the Articles of Faith and named the Presiding Authorities of the Church. The ward Primary group sang two numbers, "Trail Builder Song." and "The Call of Love." Mr. Olsen and Mr. Drage of the High Coucil of the Stake were special missionary speakers. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Allred have returned home for the summer months. They have been teaching teach-ing in the schools at Sunnyside the past winter. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Blain and small daughter and Mrs. Carol Christenscn of Salt Lake City spent the week end visiting their parents. Mr. and Mrs. James W. Blain. Mrs. Ella Carlson. Miss Elver-na Elver-na Carlson and Miss Colleen Ball left Monday for Salt Lake City. Miss Ball and Miss Carlson will be employed there for the summer sum-mer months. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Allred announce an-nounce the birth of a baby boy born Sundav at the hospital of Dr. G. P. Madsen in Mt. Pleasant. Mr. C. H. Strate was honored by his family Sunday on his ei'gh'y-sixth birthday. At pres- J ent he is the eldest man living in this city. Mr. Strate was born May 19, 1Si;0. at Aakus. Denmark. He emmigrated to this country and arrived in Salt Lake City, July 24 j 1S73. when thirteen years of aee. j He married Mary F. Acord in 1Sn3 ' in the LDS Endowment House at Salt Lake City. Apostle Daniel H. Wells performed the marriape ceremony. Mrs. Strate passed away October 25, 1930. They were the parents of seven children. Those livng are Abram Strate, Columbia, Utah; Fred C. Strate, Provo; Mrs. Edith Brough, Mrs. Marsha Benson and Mrs. Sarah Baxter, Spring City. There are 23 living grandchildren grandchil-dren and 18 living great grandchildren. grand-children. Mr. Strate became an extensive exten-sive farmer and was Coal Agent for the Utah Fuel Company for 28 years; also was in the sheep and cattle industry for several years. He cares for himself in his lovely little home, and has many beautiful flower beds and gardens; gar-dens; also vegetable gardens he cares for. Six gandsons were in the armed forces. One grandson was killed in action in 1944. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Allred of Salt Lake City visited the past week at the home of Mrs. Irene Smith. Mrs. Bertha Blain is visiting in Magna at the home of a sister, Mrs. Emma Pusey. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pyper visited Sunday at the home of Mrs. Odell Blain. They, with their small child, are enroute to California, where Cpl. Pyper will report to a Army Veterans hospital for a back injury he sustained while enroute to Guam. Mr. and Mrs. Harner Christen-sen Christen-sen and daughter, Don Etta were week end vistors in this city. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Madsen and small daughter, Carol are at present visiting in California. Lamont Larsen, grandson of Gilbert Nyberg, left Tuesday for his home in Sacramento, California. Califor-nia. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Larsen. He has been here visiting his grandparents, and an aunt, Mrs. Eva Erickson. Lamont La-mont is a veteran of the Pacific area and as a member of the Navy participated in seven ma-por ma-por operations. He was recently discharged at Boston and stop: ped here enroute home after two years in Service. Victor Osobrne is home after spending the winter months herding sheep on the West Desert. Des-ert. The Blazer group of the Primary Pri-mary enjoyed an outing Tuesday afternoon under the direction of their teachers, Mrs. Earldean Clark and Mrs. Dorthy Clark. ; The boys enjoyed a picnic and were taken for a long car ride 1 throughout the country. The Guide and Trekers organized organ-ized two ball teams Tuesday at Primary under the direction of their teachers Mrs. Edith Schofield Scho-field and Mrs. Athene Osborne. The boys will practice, through the summer and hope to have a good team. Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Nielsen and daughter, Karma of Salt Lake City visited ten days with their mother, Mrs. Grace Nielsen. Niel-sen. Mrs. Nielsen entertained Mr. and Mrs. Elden Nielsen, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Nielsen and daughter, I Karma, Mr. and Nrs. Kenneth j Frandsen and Jeddie Nielsen at a '. chicken dinner for Mother's Dav. Harold and Jeddie left for Arc'o, Idaho where they expect to shear sheep for six weeks. j Open House will be held next Thursday, May 30th between the hours of 2 p. m. and 6 p. m. at the home of Perer Sorensen in , honor of his 80th birthday an- I niversary at Spring City. He was ! born in Moroni, Utah May 30th. ; 1866, a son of Soren Peter and Agnes Hutcheson Sorensen, who ; came here from Scotland and j Denmark. He married Christena Olsen in Spring City in March, 1SS7, later ! being married n the Manti Temple. Tem-ple. They reared a family of three boys and two girls. Mrs. Sorensen died several years ago. In the early life of Mr. Sorensen Soren-sen he was in partnership with Christian Thompsen and Peter Rasmussen in tne saw mill and lumber business of which they served this community and surrounding sur-rounding region for 20 years. The rest of his life he has been a successful farmer. Of the five children reared by Mr. Sorensen, he has but one ; child living, he is Mr. Leo Soren- sen, of this city. He has 11 ! grandchildren and 7 great grand ! children. One grandson is still ! in the Serivec in Europe. Four ; grandsons were recently released ; from service. ' Mr. Sorensen enjoys good ! health, and still accomplishes a 1 great deal of strenuous work, j He will be pleased to greet his j many friends and relatives, who ; wish to visit him at his home !
