Show Armistice Day November 11 "Upon the brow of Arlington Hill, across uie Potomac, in the shadows ol the nation's Capitol, stands a shaft as white as tne driven snow, rnscrmea on mat monument are the immortal words: 'Here rests in honored glory an American -soldier known but to God.' "An army sentry guards him. "No one knows his name. "No one knows whether there flowed in his veins the blood of a noble or that of a peasant. "No one knows his race, color or creed. "No one knows from what home he came, whether from a hovel or mansion. "No one knows whether he is Protestant, Catholic or Jew. "But the whole world knows where he went to fadeless fame and undying glory. "He is called the Unknown Soldier." (By Harry H. Schlacht) |
