Show Bee-Catching' Champion The United States is often described des-cribed as a nation of "joiners." We like our associations, organizations, organiz-ations, lodges and whatever anybody any-body can think up. If there is one thing they like better, however, it is "champions." We net only stage athletic contests to determine the champions, but in practically every stage of our varied activities, there aie those who crave the title "champion." The other day we ran across a n;w type Ji champion. The Beekeepers Bee-keepers of the S:ate cf Maryland staged a "bee-catching" contest, giving the championship to Rein-hardt Rein-hardt Reier, who caught with his bote hands 43 b:es in three minutes min-utes wi:hout being stung. Mr. Reier ft on from a field of twenty contestants, con-testants, ten cf whom withdrew leng before the three-minute bell because they suffered stings. All that they had to do, under the rules, was to catch the bees "on the wing," put tnem in a bottle, where they could be counted by the judges and do it without getting stung and without hurting the bees. There may be ethers in the United Uni-ted States to contest the championship champ-ionship of Bee-catcher Reier, but, so far as we are concerned, he is welcom: to his laurels. |
