Show Utah Leads In Baby Register Utah babies long known as the State's best crop are again in the limelight. For four weeks past they have occupied oc-cupied front stage position through a 'Register Your Baby" campaign conducted by the State Board of Health in cooperation with the Unied States Bureau of the Census and ptah Federal Relief Adminis-tration Adminis-tration one of 37 similar campaigns in as many states throughout the nation. But now, with the campaign near-ing near-ing its close, the Utah babies are preparing to take thier final campaign cam-paign bow. It will be in response to the annoutncem( mt that their home state leads all other states in percentage cf campaign cards returned re-turned evidence that their fathers and mothers showed more interest in their offspring than did those of any other commonwealth. With the passing of fcur weeks sine? the 'baby census" cards were distributed' more than 8300 have be'n filled in and returned to the State Board of Health for checking against existing records. This gives Utah a percentage of approximately 70 percent, as against 66.3 for Vermont, Ver-mont, the leader until the Beehive State's results were made known by returned cards. ' The purpo-in of the campaign was tw--fold: fift, to incir.a.1- birth r'eistration 8,rd second, to check the accuracy of existing rec-rds. Another tmportinf, ob'retive wyis the creating of interest in the State'n vital statistics by tending to make the public more cognizant of the great importance, economically and socially, of birth registration. State Board of Health officials ascribed Utah's success in leading the nation in campaign results to the fine cooperation given by newspapers, news-papers, periodicals, patriotic, educational, edu-cational, civic and social groups, in arousing interest and bringing the campaign home to the parents. Parents of babies born within the past year, including the new year just begun, may still fill in and return re-turn a baby census card. They may be obtained from the State Board of Health, local birth registrars or county FERA agents, nurses end case workers. |
