Show Hiway Irarfic Safety Discussed at Meeting With ' State Officials At a dinner meeting sponsored sponsor-ed by Pleasant Grove City, civic leaders met with officials of the Utah State Road Deptartment last Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The meeting was held at the Alpine Villa Grill, Representing the State Road Department were Ray Halverson, traffic engineer and Erin Leonard, Leon-ard, district engineer. Representing Pleasant Grove City were Mayor B. H. Adams, and City CounciLmen John S. Green and Eldon Johnson. Merrill Mer-rill N. Warniok, A. J. M.e.redith, Kay Jacobs, Junius A. West, Ernest Er-nest Morgan and A. B. Gibson represented the Interests of the local civic clubs. Mayor Adams presided at' the meeting. The Mayor opened the discussion discus-sion by calling attention to the needs of Pleasant Grove relative to traffio safety and highway signs and markers. Mr. Wamick mentioned the hazardous traffic situation on highway 91 at the northwest entrance to the city and also at the Geneva crossroads. Mr. Leonard s:ated that there were two possible solutions to the northwest entrance problem: 1 ma'dng a better approach to the intersection by widening the pavement to the southwest. 2 by "channelization" and providing a "storage area" for cars traveling to the city from the north. Following the meeting the group made an "on the ground" inspection of the areas concerned and definite safety possibilities were pointed out. Before leaving- for Salt Lake City, Mr. Halverson and Mr. Leonard promised immediate attention at-tention to the proposals submitted sub-mitted by the group. |
