Show Local Boy Gets Commendation In U.S. Air Force Through the courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Deveraux of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, we are publishing a letter of appreciation sent on July 22, 1959 to the young airman air-man by his conunanding officer, Major Morton Speigel. The letter is self-explanatory. S Sgt. Arlyn J. Deveraux, 43rd Armt Elect Maint.Sq. Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona 1. Loyalty, attention to duty and a desire to excell in a specialty spec-ialty are the attributes essential in becoming an outstanding airman. air-man. S Sgt Deveraux has demonstrated demon-strated to an outstanding degree all those qualities during the recent, re-cent, intensive Bombing Competition Competi-tion training missions. His attention atten-tion to duty and disregard for his own conveniences, coupled with an outstanding job knowledge has enabled the 43rd Bomb Wing to prepare the A & E configuration of the selected competition air- . craft to an excellent condition. 2. On 16 July, 1959 S Sgt Deveraux Dev-eraux voluntarily flew at the last minute on aircraft 53-2099 in order or-der to correct discrepancies. On 21 July 1959 he again demonstrated demonstrat-ed his outstanding devotion to duty by completing a full days' work and 'then after hours helped launch the aircraft ; seven hours later met and debriefed the crew. Then four hours later commenced work on returning the aircraft to the best possible flight condition. 3. There is little wonder why in the 1956 Bombing Competition S Sgt Deveraux's aircraft 52-0443 won the Bombing Trophy. Attention Atten-tion to duty, loyalty and an outstanding out-standing job knowledge are the keys to his success. Morton Spiegel, Major, USAF, Aircraft Commandar |
