Show Ernest Dean Is Speaker at Lions Meeting Ernest Dean of American Fork, recently elected member of the 1959 Utah State Legislature, was guest speaker at the regular local Lions Club meeting on Dec. 3. He spoke on "Public Safety" and explained ex-plained how Utah County had been organized with safety committees com-mittees in each community. In Pleasant Grove, such a committee com-mittee has been organized with Police Chief Glen Newman as chairman and six other committee members. According to Mr. Dean, the work of the committee will con-V sist of the following activities: Survey of the fire hazards in schools, churches, other public buildings and homes. Give attention to all signs, slogans slo-gans and regulations pertaining .to traffic on the highways. Check on open canals, ponds, and irrigation ditches, in the interest in-terest of child safety. Work toward a uniform county, coun-ty, state and national code of traffic laws. Give added attention to the retention re-tention and adequate pay of our qualified law enforcement officers. offic-ers. Make a special effort to have the teen-age drivers not only to get proper training in driving automobiles au-tomobiles but also form "Car Clubs" and establish rules and regulations aimed at respect for the law of the road. Give help to citizens in need and cooperate with our law enforcement officers offic-ers to prevent the ever growing number of deaths and accidents on our highways. |
