Show PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, conditions in the civilized world continue to reflect a state of unrest, suspicion and conflict, and, WHEREAS, the United Nations is the only world-wide organization where problems .affecting the various nations can be considered in an atmosphere of friendly cooperation, and, WHEREAS, the ultimate peace and welfare of the United States, as well as of ottr nations, depends on the settlement of these problems by arbitration rather than by force of arms, and, WHEREAS, the resort to atomic war would mean the end of civilization, therefore, I, Burton H. Adams, Mayor of the City of Pleasant Grove, do ordain, designate and proclaim Saturday, October 24 as "United Nations Day." And I do hereby urge all our citizens to observe the event in a fitting manner, with deep consideration for the work of the United Nations and prayers for its success. I would also suggest that schools observe the event by special programs and activities on Friday, October 23 and that churches program special talks and prayers on Sunday, October 25.
