Show THE MAYOR REPORTS Representatives of the Associated Businessmen of Pleasant Grove met with the city council Monday night and requested that something some-thing definite be done regarding the parking situation on Main St. The Mayor and council members suggest the following solution to the problem: Businessmen and Geneva workers work-ers must refrain from their cur-I cur-I rent practice of parking on Main Street, and others to refrain from leaving cars parked for long periods. per-iods. Now that the offenders have been notified, police officers will make regular checks. If there is no improvement, limited parking will be instituted, Mayor Roberts said. The Mayor stated that the problem prob-lem of a place to dispose city garbage is still unsolved. A vigorous vigor-ous protest has been made by the Manila residents against the location loca-tion of the disposal yard in their community. In .this regard city officials of-ficials are at a loss to understand the workings of human nature. Tuesday night a meeting was held in American Fork at which a film depicting the "Deep-fill" method meth-od of garbage disposal. Although the meeting was well advertised, only two citizens from Utah County, Coun-ty, other than city officials, attended at-tended the meeting. "People Would often rather protest than to learn the facts," the Mayor said. There are two other possible garbage sites now being considered consider-ed by city officials. One is the city-county operated ' gravel pits east of town and the other is an area south and east of the mouth of American Fork Canyon. A petition has been received from residents of Third! East, between be-tween Center . Street and Second South asking that sidewalks be constructed there. Mayor Roberts stated that residents of other city areas who desire special improvements improve-ments of sidewalks or curb and gutter should, file petitions with the City Recorder at once. |
