Show New Telephones In Pleasant Grove Area Show Greater Increase Than Does Population Although the past decade saw the greatest population growth in the history of the Pleasant Grove area, the telephone growth was much more rapid, according to J. L. Strong, manager of the Mountain Moun-tain States Telephone and Telegraph Tele-graph Company. The population of this area increased in-creased from about 2841 in 1940 to more than 4900 today; an increase in-crease of about 90 per cent. In the same period, the number of telephones in the Pleasant Grove area grew from 217 to 921; an in. crease oi more than 324.4 per cent. Before World War II, telephone growth was generally moderate: but in the last few years of sub- stantially higher incomes, the telephone has become more than just a convenience or luxury in 1 most homes. This has caused a heavy demand for service from existing residents, which, added to the demand from new residents, has resulted in doubling the problem pro-blem of providing a telephone to everyone wherever and whenever it is desired. In spite of this, tremendous tre-mendous strides have been taken. The result, according to Mr. Strong, is that since World War II, the demand for "telephone service ser-vice in Pleasant Grove has been the greatest in history, the telephone tele-phone growth has been the great, est in history, and the company has invested more money to provide pro-vide service here than at any time in history. The $20 million invest- I ed in the past ten years in Utah is more than the company had invested in-vested in the state during the previous pre-vious thirty years. |
