Show Passage of Amendments Are Important to Every Utahn Says UEA Executive Secretary "Constitutional Amedments 1 and 2 are important to every Utahn Ut-ahn in the November 7 election because their passage means better bet-ter school organization, which in turn means better schools for Li-tan's Li-tan's children." This statemetn made recently by Allan M. West, executive secretary sec-retary of the Utah Educational Assocaition .emphasized the importance im-portance of the pending consctitu-tional consctitu-tional amendment to the welfare of public education in Utah. By adopting Amendment 1, U-tahns U-tahns will provide that the State Superintendent of Public Instruction Instruc-tion shall be the administrative officer of-ficer of the State Board of Education, Edu-cation, and that he shall be appointed ap-pointed by the board. This will give the State Superintendent the same relationship to the Board that the local superintendent of schools has with the district board of eduction, Mr. West pointed out. At the same time we appoint such educational leaders as the President of the state university, the president of the agricultural college, and the heads of other educational institutions in the state, it seems inconsistent to leave the selection of our chief state school officers up to election by partisian ballot, Mr. West said. Adoption of Amendment 2, Mr. West points out, is a necessary companion action since it deletes the name of Superintendenat of Public Instruction from the list of state executive officers" to be chosen by popular ballot. |
