Show High School News & Views YEARBOOK The 1950 - 51 Valkyre will be the best book Pleasant Grove High School has ever published. The 7th, 8lh, and 9th grades will have individual pictures. The book will be bigger, with more pictures, and there will be more autograph pages. PEP CLUB INITATION What was that? Did you see what I just saw? Hurry, come quick and see the funny thing. What was that horrible looking creature ? Oh, for awful. Oh, (moan, moan.) This was the conversation going on in the halls of Pleasant Grove High School, October 4, 1950. It was the initation day for new Pep Club members. There were thirty-one girls initiated. init-iated. They looked like weird monsters from some planet, heads as huge as balls, rubber feet and green fingers. The girls carried beans on knives kniv-es from class to class, rolled potatoes pot-atoes down the halls with their noses, wore onion and garlic necklaces, neck-laces, danced, sang and ate food which tasted like it must have come from some other world. The ten old members had lots of fun bossing the "poor little creatures." The old members were addressed as "Madame Suprior" by the new members or they were sorry if they didn't. HOMECOMING DANCE The annual Homecoming Dance which was held last Friday was a succcess. Many of the students turned out to support the dance. Robert Marshall and JoAnn Lunceford were crowned King and Queen by Rex Fowles, Student Body President. HOMECOMING ASSEMBLY Friday, September 29th the annual an-nual Homecoming Assembly was held. The old members of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove High were the honored guests. The assembly was: Vocal solo Lynnel Johnson; Reading, Mary Ann Moyle; Piano solo Ann Clark; King and Queen Candidates were introduced by-Margene Page 11th grade; Jewel Olpin, 10th grade; JoAnn Roundy, 12th grade. Mr. Shiffer introduced the football foot-ball team; the Co-Captains Rex Fowles and Merlin Allred gave a few remarks. Football skit given by the Sophomore Sop-homore class. The rest of the time was turned over to the cheer leaders. SCHOOL PLAY I Selection for the school play was made on Tuesday, Oct. 3rd. The play will be "Little Women ' and is expected to be one of the best in vears. . The following cast was selected: Student Director, Cleo Culli-more; Culli-more; Jo, JoAnn Roundy; Meg. Jean Pulley; Beth, Joan Li'scomb; Amy, Carol Smith; Mrs. March, Maurine Zabriskie; Aunt March, Mary Ann Moyle; Hannah, Lucille Luc-ille Mills; Laurie, Loreh Cook; Brooke, Dale Adams; Bhaer, Jay Olsen; Mr. Lawrence, Dee Louder; Mr. Marsh, Bernell Ostler. P. G. VIKINGS BADLY DEFEATED The Pleasant Grove Vikings were badly defeated here Sept. 29, on their own gridiron. The Vikings Vik-ings held their own against the Cavemen until the middle of the first quarter, when the Cavemen griddlers pulled a fast reverse to tally up their first touchdown of the game. The second touchdown for the Cavemen was gained by Ketchum, who plunged through the line and ran 45 yards to score. In the beginning of the second quarter Max Pierce pulled a reverse and ran 50 yards to net the Cavemen 18 points for two quarters play. In the second half the Vikings made a successful goalline stand to hold the Cave from another touchdown. But the Cavemen broke loose in the last of the 3rd quarter to score once more. The American Fork Cavemen racked-up racked-up more touchdowns and an extra point to defeat the young Viking 37-0. |
