Show Civilian Defense Organization Rapidly Being Formed; Advice Given If A Bomb Is Dropped Harold S. Walker, recently ap--pointed as Co-ordinator of Civilian Defence in Pleasant Grove City by Mayor W. Robert Marrott and the City Council has selected a number num-ber of energetic workers, and Coordinator Co-ordinator Walkers reports that an ; organization for Civilian Defense is rapidly being formed in our city, in Lindon and Manila. Josiah Kemp, has been selected as assistant to Mr. Walker, with Harold Smith, S. Christensen, Paul Adamson, Karl Banks, and Harvey Smith have been chosen as Deputy Co-ordinators and Vilace Radmall, Neldon Lim, Dr. T. M. Thomson, H. Burmeister, Boyd Fugal, and W. D. Chapman will serve as Advisory Ad-visory Council. The committee will meet once each week to discuss plans for defense of our area. As the term Civilian Denfense implies each citizen is expected to provide for his own protection. IF A BOMB DROPS .... If there is an air raid warning: Put out fires, turn off gas, electricity, elec-tricity, gas. Close all doors, windows, win-dows, draw curtains, draperies. Go to the basement, get in center hall. Cover neck, head, arms, against flying glass, heat and radiation. If outside, run for the nearest shelter underground or inside a building. If driving, pidl to curb, leave keys so the car can be moved, and head for shelter. If there is no warning but the burst of the bomb: Turn away from the flash, fall flat, close your eyes, cover head and arms against flash burns. Outside, get as close as you can to a building or tree for protection against falling debris. Inside, dive under a bed or desk or behind a sofa. After the all clear: If there is dust outside, cover mouth and nose with a handkerchief handker-chief (the dust might be radioactive,) radio-active,) nail blinds over broken windows. ,At the first clmnce, change clothes, scrub with plenty of soap, get hair and fingernails clean (they might carry radioactive radioact-ive particles.) t Dont: telephone, turn on water after blast (until you have been told it is uncontaminated) ; oat, drink or touch objects in contaminated contam-inated area; try to drive your car away. |
