Show Pleasant Grove City To Help Finance A 3-Block Extension Of Main Street A Pleasant Grove city corporation will help in a financial way to extend ex-tend Main street from the bank corner to the soutli side of the cemetery, according to a decision made Saturday night by the city council. A well represented group of civic club members, business men and farmers met with the city council coun-cil and discussed the matter of extending ex-tending Main street, and urged that inasmuch as Pleasant Grove was now in an industrial area, the problem prob-lem of expanson was confronting them, and the first and one of the most important problems confronting confront-ing the community was the extension exten-sion of Main street. The fact was brought out that if Pleasant Grove is to grow and expand, ex-pand, the expenditure of funds for such improvements must be met, and the property values will increase in-crease instead of decrease, and right now was the most logical time to make the extension. The fact was also brought out that the increase of people into this community will bring additional revenue into the city although the increased revenue will not come into the city treasury very mucli this year, but hereafter should help materially in offsetting any additional costs of development develop-ment and expansion. The members of the delegation were prompted by civic progress and community pride to ask the mayor and city council to aid in this much-needed much-needed improvement. As was pointed point-ed out by the speakers, that they, individually would not gain a tiling by the extension of the street, but a community improvement, ev-"eryone ev-"eryone would gain much, and it would be a big improvement for the city generally. In discussing the improvement, one of the speakers advocated that the street run the full extent of the three blocks, and then have square turns, both east and west, and he was not in favor of curving curv-ing the road in the third block, as has been suggested by some of the townspeople. The editor of The Pleasant Grove Review is of the opinion that the present city officials are doing a mighty fine act in aiding f inancially in extending Main street, and we Believe that the pepole of the city for many years to come will thank them for their farsightedness. At this time we would also voice our opinion as to the fine work being done by the members of the Associated Asso-ciated Civic clubs, and the cham-"ber cham-"ber of commerce and the Lions' club for the work they are doing toward making Pleasant Grove a "better place in which to live. Truly, this is a fine place to live and the people of this community are to be proud of the able leadership that you have here they are truly Americansthe Ameri-cansthe kind of Americans that are making this world a better place in which to live. It is the plan, if additional funds can be raised, to buy the property and remove the buildings this year, possibly grade the street, and soon as funds are available the section will be paved and a curb and gutter gut-ter be built. |
