Show Spotlighting ; UTAH j Will Develop Water Resources The efforts of the Utah Water Users Association in preserving' Utah's richest resource its water supply are highly commendable, declared both Governor Herbert B. Maw and Senator Abe Mur-dock Mur-dock at the Association's meeting held at the State Capitol. j During the water conference,-plans conference,-plans were laid to ask the 1947 state legislature to set up a one to two million dollar state recla- j mation fund (repayable without interest) for ' development of Utah's water resources. If the legislature acts favorably, it is planned to supplement the fund biennially until a revolving fund I of several million dollars is available. avail-able. The money would be re-i1 paid to the state by beneficiaries of the projects benefitted. The money, it was pointed out, would be used to supplement Federal Bureau of Reclamation funds and would enable the development of some of the state's minor reclamation recla-mation projects such as small reservoirs and ditch linings: " Two Plates For Utah Motorists A license plate for each end of the car will be delivered to Utah motorists' next year 'declares J. Lambert Gibson, Chairman of the State Tax Commission. Utah car owners have been getting along with one plate since 1942, it was pointed out. A change in the plate slogan is also promised, Mr. Gibson said, and the words "This Is The Place" will replace the wording T "Center of Scenic America". Only i passenger car plates will show I the new slogan. The state has ordered 150,000 passenger plates, i 1,100 motorcycle plates and 39,000 j truck plates, i GOO-Bed "Package" Sold It required thirty trucks to deliver de-liver a recent Salt Lake County Hospital purchase from the War Assets Administration. The purchase pur-chase was a 600-bed naval hos- pital unit released by the WAA to increase county hospital fa- cilities for handling poliomye-1 poliomye-1 litis cases. The unit is the same type used by the Navy on fighting fronts during the war. The City of Vernal purchased a similar hospital unit from the WAA in August.. ' Would Sell Town Dragerton, Utah, a Carbon County war town with 604 dwelling dwell-ing houses, a 104-room barracks, general store, church, school, clinic and infirmary has been offered for sale by the War Assets 1 Administration. Road Promised Cedar Breaks A road to circle Cedar Breaks National Monument is now in the bag, for Iron County Commissioners Com-missioners have succeeded in purchasing pur-chasing and transferring to the National Parks Service, four tracts of land which had blocked , the right-of-way. Salt Flats Await Unique Racer A unique racing automobile sleek, low-slung and light: will be piloted over the Bonneville Salt Flats this autumn by Ab Jenkins, Salt Lake racing veteran in an attempt to better his old record of 184.91 miles an hour for 50 miles on a circle track. The automobile weighs only 1900 lbs. and stands 36 inches high; it produces 550-horse power pow-er at 8500 r.p.m. The machine is valued at $65,000.00 and is of the V-8 type. Carbon County Asphalt Improves Salt Lake Streets Out of town visitors to Salt i Lake City now gape with awe at the .recent (strect improvements. The face lifting came about through the application of 11,137 tons of Rock Asphalt mined at Sunnyside, Carbon County In addition, the Salt Lake City street department laid down 5,-931 5,-931 tons of stone fill sheet asphalt, as-phalt, another strictly Utah road making material. The improvements improve-ments and the speed at which they were made, have caused wide and favorable comments. Utahns Invited To Clearfield Naval Supply Depot The annual Navy Day program will be observed Saturday, October Oc-tober 2Gth, between 1:00 and 4:00 o'clock P. M. Captain J. Ball, Supply Officer in charge of Utah's 40-million dollar Clearfield Clear-field Naval Supply Depot, extends ex-tends an invitation to all Utahns to visit the depot on that date, where conducted tours will be held with gides and transporta-1 transporta-1 tion furnished. |
