Show i Delegation Selected To Attend Hearing At Carson City, Nev. PROVO Seven representatives were selected Monday from Utah county to attend a senate subcommittee sub-committee hearing to be conducted this week enj by Senator Pat McCarran in Carson City, Nev., to determine whether the structural struc-tural steel portion of Geneva steel plant should be completed or dismantled dis-mantled and shiped to Russia. All of the men appointed to attend the hearing are original backers of the Geneva plant and include: J. W. Gil.lman of Orem past president of the Provo River Water Users' association; John O. Beesley, prominent retired Provo businessman; Dr. F. H. Harris, Har-ris, president of Birgham Young University; John E. Booth former Mayor of Spanish Fork; A. O. Thorn president of the Springville chamber of Commerce and Sylvan Clark of Lehi, Utah" County com- misioner. It was pointed out that coal is now .being shipped from Utah to Kaiser steel plants on the coast which are not located in a convenient con-venient spot for steel production and which are extremely expensive too perate. The Geneva plant is placed at a strategic spot as far as the war is concerned, being far enough from the coast to be protected from bombings, and close enough to supply the west coast with steel in case the trade route through the Panama Canal should be shut off, they said. Dr. Harris pointed out that more labor would be required to dismantle and remove the structu-al structu-al steel mill than to complete it. Others attending the county meeting were: A. B. Gibson and S. Duane Harper, of Pleasant Grove; Floyd Harmer, Vernal Twede and George C. Chase of Payson; Emil Ostlund, Paul C. Miner, Joseph W. .Grant and W. W. Brockbank of Springville; Mayor Maurice Harding, Victor J. Bird and P. E. Ashton of Provo, and Leo Hansen of Lehi. |
