Show PARTY GIVEN IN HONOR OF ELDERLY CITIZEN One of Pleasant Grove's oldest old-est and most respected citizens, Walter J. Matthews was honored by his family Saturday evening at the home of his daughter Mrs. Marion Adamson, in celebralion of his 91st birthday anniversary which fell on December 26th. Dinner was served after which 'family chat, fun & laughter, wiled away the hours. The very jovial group included besides the honor guest: Mr. and Mrs. J. Kemp, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Matthews, Mrs. Marion Adamson, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Frampton, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Matthews and daughter Ana, jvit. -and Mrs, Cornelius Cor-nelius Matthews, and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Matthews and two children o'f Mddvale; Mrs. Agnes Burns, Mrs. Margaret Devereaux, Reed Matthews, Earl Matthews, Miss Betty Christiansen, Mr. and Mrs. Nyle Frampton, Jesse Frampton, Fram-pton, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Allen, Mrs. Beth Ma this, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Fraapt'on, Calvin, Laree, Glade and Dale Matthews, Thomas, Thom-as, Walter, and LaVon .Adamson. Mir. Matthews was born in Cardiff, Wales, on December 26, 1854, and came to this country when a young man, and engaged in farming and later spent many years railroading, as a fireman and engineer. In 1886 he married Margaret Baxter. She died June 30, 1944. Since that time he has made his home with his daughter Mrs. J. Kemp. He is the father of ten children .eight of whom are living. liv-ing. They are: Mrs. Lizzie M. Kemp, Mrs. Margaret M. Frampton, Framp-ton, Mrs. Beata M. Adamson, Glen. Howard, Cornelius, Douglas, and (John Matthews. Bp (has 29 grand children, 4 great grand children. Four grand sons served in the armed forces. Mr. Matthews is hale i and active in spite of his age, takes long walks to visit his children and is always jovial and happy to meet friends. |
