Show mothers' cluh meetikc; iieur JANUARY tl Mrs. Arthur Overlade was hostess host-ess at the opening 1EM7 meeting of the Mothers' Club, held on Friday, January 3. Mrs. Lealand Clark, president, was in charge and business bus-iness matters were discussed briefly- Mrs. Vernon Ahman presented the program, which was planned in observance of the 51st anniversary of Utah's statehood on January 4, and marked th" 'ftening meeting in Utah's pio "- 'kntennial year. We commemorate commemor-ate the integrity, vision and spiritual spirit-ual drive of those who have gone before, and the power thas lies in our people to surpass the achievements achieve-ments of the past." Mrs. Ahman recalled the pioneers pio-neers interest in drama, dance and song and related circumstances that led to the origin of some of our best known songs. Most of these depict the faith, courage and unconquerable spirit of our pioneers pio-neers in their westward migration. She also paid tribute to Brigham Young and other lenders and made an appeal to every one to become centennial conscious and join the community in local celebrations honoring our pioneers. Mrs. Harold S. Walker reported on I he inecling of Ihe Utah County Coun-ty Women's Legislative Council, al which Judge Terry talked on the need of a detention home Cor Utah County delinquents. At present pres-ent (he provisions Cur such a home rests with the cities and counties. Judge Terry favors having a bill introduced into the legislature which will provide that the state assume the responsibility of providing prov-iding adequate detention homes where needed. Mrs. Walker also gave a brief report on the Women's Action Committee for Lasting Peace to which she is also a delegate. A delicious tray luncheon was served to 21 members and one f guest, Mrs. Vilace Radmall. Mrs. M. D. Radmall led the group in reciting the Club Collect. |
