Mrs. Garland Clark returned home Wednesday from the Lehi Hospital, where she recently underwent a serious ser-ious operation. Mrs. Leon Smith and daughter, Ruth, spent Saturday in Salt Lake, visiting Mrs. Smith's sister, Mrs. A. L. Brown. At the recent B. Y. U. invitational meet George Gourley received first place in the pole vault and Leroy Smith second place in high jumping. The Manila Ward Mutual will hold their ward Mutual contest this evening even-ing (Saturday) at 8 p. m. It will con-j con-j sist of the Mutual play, Junior Girls double trio, M Mens quartet the Public Pub-lic Speaking contest and the Beehive Girls retold story. - Mrs. Isaac Hayes entertained the Young Mothers Club at her home Thursday afternoon. After the lesson les-son on "Child Culture" was given by Miss Estelle Fenton, the afternoon was spent in social chat. Delicious refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Clark have purchased pur-chased a home in Salt Lake and will move their family to their new location loca-tion as soon as school closes. Williams, Will-iams, Clark, Jr., and Miss Edna have attended school in Salt Lake the past winter, William at the TJ. of TJ. and Edna at Henager's Business college. Mrs. Clark has spent part of the last week at the capitol city preparing the new home ready for occupancy. ! Mrs. Leon Smith and Mrs. Alvin Neilson were Provo visitors Thursday. Thurs-day. Mrs. W. B. Crandall of Springville, visited Sunday with Mrs. Jessie Wad-ley Wad-ley and family. Frienls of Merlin Wadley pleasantly pleasant-ly surprised him Thursday evening in honor of his birthday. The City Fathers have recently purchased a hundred feet of 2y2 inch hose to add to the city fire equipment. The Pleasant Grove High School Band will play at the tabernacle in Provo during the assembling of the crowd for the morning program for High School Day Friday, May 3. The band also is scheduled for one number num-ber on the program. John G. Johnson is at the Aird Hospital in Provo seriously ill. Last Friday while at work he suffered severe pain in his eyes, which necessitated necess-itated calling a doctor the following day. Sunday, be was taken to the hospital and his afflicted eye operated upon. From last reports, he was in a very critical condition. His family are constantly at his bedside, and his sons in New York and other eastern points have been notified of his illness. Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Christiansen made a business trip to Provo Wednesday. Wed-nesday. Mrs. Melvin McDaniel of Salt Lake, visited Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James C. Peterson. Ruth Smith and Arvel Anderson have been selected to give the Seminary Semi-nary address at the graduation exercises exer-cises of the Seminary to be held May 2G. The Second Ward Primary teachers were entertained by Stella Hardman and Jennie Wadley at the home of Mrs. Hardman Wednesday evening. Gaines were played and a delicious lunch served. Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Maxfield and daughter, May, of Grantsville were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Maxfield Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Gleason, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Maxfield and Mrs. Marie Bennett attended the funeral Saturday of the baby boy of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Broomhead of Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Humphries visited visit-ed Sunday in Riverton with Mr. Humphries' old missionary companion, com-panion, Thomas Nicholes. Mrs. F. S. Humphries motored to Salt .Lake City Friday in company with Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Anderson, where they spent the day combining business and pleasure. I'. iJenseu accompanied her husband to Salt Like Thursday, where he went for medical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Ole Anderson, Reed Warnick and Mr. I!. Smith of Ogden were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. !'. Waniick. The Manila 4-1 1 club lias purchased four registered calves from the State of Washington. Mrs. Dean Smith of Alpine, spent the past week with her mother, Mrs. Maggie Ilolman. Dolbert Fugal joined his wife at Circleville Wednesday, and together they will take an auto ttrip through the scenic parts of Southern Utah. Mr. Nelson and Mr. McGregor, friends of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Dusenberry, wljile they have been in South America, called on relatives here last Monday. They state that Mr. and Mrs. Dusenberry will return home within the present year. The Beehive Girls of the Manila ward participated in a re-told story contest Tuesday evening. The Misses Nell Swenson, Lucy Wadley and Lorraine Lor-raine Swenson received the highest scores. These girls will compete for first place in the ward contest Saturday Satur-day evening. Miss Estelle Fenton, Mrs. Fern Edwards and Mrs. Martha Adams were the judges. Mrs. Clara White gave a birthday party in honor of her little son, Ray, the occassion being his sixth birthday. birth-day. Ten children were present: Ellen Herbertson, Gwen Warburton, 'Bryce and Don Adams, Berneil, Wayne and Rhodney Jackson, Richard Adams, Arveen Adams and Rose Herbertson. They enjoyed lunch and a pleasant afternoon by listening to the children's child-ren's hour from KSL. The Primary conference of the Manila ward was held Sunday evening. even-ing. President Nettie Warnick was in charge. A very excellent group exercise from each class was given. Short talks were given by Lillian Ellis, former president, Bishop L. M. Atwood and Mrs. Ethel West of the Primary board. Mrs. Laura Robert-I Robert-I son, Mrs. Regina Thorne and Mrs. ! Niels Swenson of the Stake board were present. Mrs. Rollo Thornton entertained the Wamptha Club at her home Thursday afternoon. The special guests were: Mrs. Clarence S. Hill and Mrs. Rulon Dixon. The members present were: Mesdames LeRoy Thorne, Paul Adamson, Glen Wadley, Kent Adamson, Alton Clark, . Howard Thorne, Vance West, Herman Par-duhn, Par-duhn, George Wilson, Errol Halliday, Elton Taylor and Robert Marrott. The afternoon was spent in sewing and social chat, after which dainty refreshments re-freshments were served. The Sunshine committee of the Second Ward Relief Society entertained entertain-ed Thursday afternoon at the home of Sarah Walker, in honor of Mrs. Emma Em-ma Keogh, who has spent the winter here with her sisters, Mrs. Stina Ball and Mrs. Walker. She will leave soon for her home in Oregon. The guests were: Mrs. T. H.
