Under the terms of a co-! co-! operative ns'-'oement between the universities of Texas and Chicago, the '. latter Institution Is to provide the staff for the observatory, with Dr. Otto Struve, director of the Yerkes observatory of the University of Chicago, as ; director. The dome, which has been painted with aluminum paint. Is vlsi-! vlsi-! bio from the main highway between San Antonio and El Taso for a distance dis-tance of at least 50 miles. The upper part of the dome turns on a circular rail, and one complete revolution can be made In four minutes. Two shutters shut-ters can be opened, providing a span of 13 feet, through which the telescope tele-scope will be pointed for observations. Cast late in 1033, at Corning, N. X, the Si-inch mirror of the McDonald telescope Is now being ground in Cleveland and Is expected to be ready by the first of the year. |
