Show Seventeenth Century Mode Virginia ladies of the Seventeenth century differed little from the English Eng-lish in their costumes, except that, being richer, they were better able to gratify their desire to shine and outshine. As they manufactured nothing in the South, all their finery was fresh from England. A Virginia Tady, Mrs. Pritchard, in 1660, owned an olive colored silk petticoat, an-o"her an-o"her of silk tabby, one of lowered tabby, one of velvet, and one oi white"' striped dimity. Her printed calico gown was lined witt i blue silk There were also a pair oi cablet sleeves and another of ruf-fled ruf-fled holland; also a pair of green stockings. |
