Show o Mercur Dome Going Deeper Encouraged by the results of core drilling, Mercur Dome Gold Mining company is preparing to extend the shaft at its property in Mercur canyon, can-yon, it was announced Saturday by C. N. Sweet, vice president and general gen-eral manager of the company. Drilling equipment was pulled Saturday, Mr. Sweet said, and the company will resume sinking Tuesday, Tues-day, putting on two shifts to speed up the work. From the bottom of the shaft, 370 feet deep on the incline, the company drilled vertically to a depth of 585 feet. From a depth of 126 feet, Mr. Sweet reports, the drill brought up cores that assayed 1.55 ounces of gold to the ton. The Madison limestone, the company's major objective, was encountered at a depth of 543 feet, just below a nine-foot bed of shale. j The company drilled 42 feet into the Madison limestone and Mr. Sweet said all cores from this for- mation showed substantial values, averaging $8.43 in gold and two ounces of silver to the ton. When the shaft has been extended about 135 feet, Mr. Sweet said, the company will crosscut to the northeast north-east to reach the ground from which the drill brought up ounce-and-a-half gold ore. With two shifts at work, Mr. Sweet exoe to begin crosscutting in five or six weeks and believes- a 40-foot crosscut cross-cut will be sufficient to reach the goal. |
