Show Traditions make the holiday season memorable 1 We have a unique Christmas tradition, which I think nobody else does. We put hints on the presents. That means that we still put who the gifts are for, but we put a clue that has something to do with the present. For instance; last year my brother received a G.I. Joe toy figure. fig-ure. The hint on the present was "Fight for Freedom," since that's what G.I. Joe does. This tradition hasbeen practiced since I was born, so I think it's pretty neat. -Kirk Lima American Fork One of our favorite traditions combines New Year's Resolutions with our Christmas celebration. We hang up a stocking for Jesus and in it we place our written resolutions reso-lutions of what we will improve about ourselves in the upcoming year. THese promises are our gifts to Jesus. Every Christmas Eve we read last year's resolutions and put our new ones in the stocking. This helps us remember Jesus and not lose him in the Santa Claus shuffle. A favorite tradition was waiting upstairs with my sister on Christmas Christ-mas morning until we heard the bells on our record chime out "joy" on "Joy To The World." That was our signal to race each other down the stairs to see what Santa had brought. -Frank Schiller Cedar Hills Some families have it lucky-the women do the cooking and the men clean up. Not so in my family. I'm lucky if I get any help at al with the clean up. But, the kids do pitch in and help make the dozen or so pies, plus other dishes. After the meal, we sit down to a marathon game of monopoly, Chinese Chi-nese checkers, and the visiting you don't take the time to do the rest of the year. We sometimes have more and sometimes less of the family meet at Grandma's, but any who come enjoy this special day. -Deanna Larson Lehi Mommy reads me stories at Christmas. I don't like the Grinch, 'cos he's mean and steals the presents! pres-ents! -Ashley Schiller Cedar Hills To solve the problem of hard-to-wrap Christmas presents, we leave out a huge canvas bag by the fireplace. fire-place. Santa puts the odd-shaped gifts like big wheels and basketball hoops unwrapped in the bag. On Christmas morning we take turns using the "feel" method to decided which present is ours. -Tara Colton Cedar Hills I like the persimmon pudding my mom makes every year for the holidays, with hot lemon sauce. Persimmons are harder to find every year, but it wouldn't be Christmas without it. Trevor Colton Cedar Hills When we were little we set fruitcake fruit-cake out for Santa Christmas Eve, hung our stockings, and went to bed with no other physical signs of the holiday showing. In the morning morn-ing we all entered the living room together. There we found magnificent magnifi-cent ten-foot Pinion Pine trees glowing with thousands of icicles and glorious decorations. It was magic! The trees were a wonder, even more so than the presents. The my stery beinghow did St. Nick get such a big tree into the house and decorated without waking any of us. We sat in awe at the empty fruitcake plate knowing Santa had been there. Camille L. Hadley Pleasant Grove Our family likes to give a Christmas Christ-mas dinner to another family in need. We go buy a ton of food then split it. (See, we buy two of everything). every-thing). One part is for the family in need, and the other is for us. Now we hit the mall. We buy a table cloth, and a center piece, and a big basket. When we get horn ewe put everything every-thing into the basket. Now the fun can really begin. Everybody piles into the wagon. Mom holds the basket on her lap. It seems to take forever to get to our destination. We sneak up to the house. We set the basket on the doorstep, ring the bell, then run as fast as we can. When we get home we all feel the real spirit of Christmas. Jennifer Hafen American Fork Every Christmas our neighborhood neighbor-hood gets together and has a neighborhood neigh-borhood Christmas party. Then everybody brings cookies, candies, or some kind of Christmas dessert, and wehave a goodie exchange, and everybody gets back a plate with lots of different desserts. Then on Christmas Eve everyone every-one in the neighborhood fills up paper sacks with sand and puts candles in them, then we put them up and down the sidewalks and driveways so the street looks like a busy city. It gives all of us the real Christmas spirit. Arlene Hill American Fork |
