Show Lady Vikes lose game The Lady vikings battled the Mt. View Bruins on even terms in a hard fought and very physical contest con-test last tuesday night, but were handed their first loss of the preseason. pre-season. The Bruins took the lead early in the game and the Vikings never could get on top, even though they had their chance as they tied the score in the first, third and final quarters. Mt. View, sparked by Stephanie Henry and her teammates' inside moves really rebounded and shot well. The Vikes deserve a bit of credit however, as they too played well, showing lots of hustle and never giving up. Pam Beagley hit two foul shot in the first quarter to tie the score the , first time. During the second pe- ; riod of play, Vikki Allred started I things happening with three con- secutive buckets. Spring Smith then connected on the front end of a one on one, and P.G. was within one point before the Bruins pulled ahead to a 37 to 33 half-time lead. The game remained close, with only minutes left in the third quarter, quar-ter, when Raquel Scott put the tie-ing tie-ing bucket in, and the score was 49 all. Suddenly, Mt. View shot two quick baskets, ending the third quarter ahead, 53-49. Baskets by Scott and Smith, followed by a three pointer by Valynn Storey, began a rally in the fourth quarter and again the Vikes were in a one point game. Smith sunk her foul shot to tie the score for the third time, 58 all. As P.G. fought for possession, they drew several fouls which the Bruins capitalized on to keep the pressure on P.G.'s moderate foul shooting in the game. The Lady Viking's next home game will open region play for them at home on Jan. 5 against Spanish Fork. Pleasant Grove's JV also went back and forth in their game with Mountain View, finally losing 49-41. Valyn Story was top scorer with 12 points, with Heather Johnson and Spring Smith each making 9. Liz Coons had 11 rebounds. |
