Show Over 150 attend Community Education banquet last week Monday, Nov. 14, the Alpine School District Community Education Department held a special banquet in honor of their teachers for National Community Education Day at Mountain View High School in Orem. Over 150 people, including Dr. Steven Baugh, District Superintendent, Superin-tendent, and members of the Alpine School Board of Education were in attendance. Jennie Barber, acting director of the Community and Adult Education Department for the district, said, "We feel that the evening was a tremendous success. It was nice to be able to show many of our teachers just how much we appreciate the great work they do in our communities. I also think the evening helped everyone involved better understand the concept of what community education and the part they play in the many activities ac-tivities which we sponsor to meet the educational, vocational and enrichment needs of the community." com-munity." The evening's program included a performance by a group of elementary students in the elementary orchestra program. Speakers included District Community Com-munity Education managers Janet Sanders and Diane Shepherd, student Louise Weeks, and longtime long-time teacher Alice Broadbent. Awards were also given to teachers who had made special contributions to the program -Alice Broadbent, Madelyn Brownell, Reed Farnsworth, Jean Robinson and Anita Rose, manager awards; Tamara Boren and Chris Wettstein, Most Dedicated; Nancy Gale - "Upward Mobility;" Nikki Dodge and Dottie Holmes, Most Versatile; Jeri Lynn Canfield -"Rookie of the Year;" Tom Sheehan - "Most Exciting Class." The evening's dinner was made possible through the contributions of area merchants including Allen's Market, N. Orem; Alpine Market, Cream 0 WeberHiland, Macey's Sack and Save, No. Orem; Mrs. Fields Cookies, Norton's, Pleasant Grove; Old Home Bakery Thrift Store, Reams Market, American Fork and Provo; Smith's Food King, American Fork; Storehouse Market, N. Orem; Wilkin's Cash Market, Orem and ZCMI, University Mall. |
