Show Palmer trial set Aug, 3 The trial of Raeldon C. Palmer, 46, and his wife, Joellen R. Palmer, 758 W. 600 North, Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, has been set for Aug. 3 at 9 a.m. before 4th District Court Judge Cullen Y. Christensen. The Palmers, along with Ann Gross Taylor, 57, New York City, are accused of kidnapping Mrs. Taylors' estranged husband, John Max Taylor, on July 16, 1987, from a Provo parking lot. Mrs. Taylors' trial is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 1, with the Palmers' trial to follow. Attorneys for the three people, along with, Charlene Barlow, Bar-low, Deputy Utah County Attorney, Attor-ney, appeared before Judge Christensen Chris-tensen July 8. Gary Weight, Mrs. Taylor's attorney, said she is currently in Mt. Sinai hospital in New York and is to be released July 16. She is expected to be in Utah by July 25. Ms. Barlow told Judge Christensen Chris-tensen that Taylor, 80, is in poor health. "We want to have his deposition depo-sition to use in both cases (both Mrs. Taylor's and the Palmer's)," she said. She requested to be allowed to set the week of July 25th to take the deposition and "ask for exclusionary exclu-sionary rules to avoid allowing Mrs.Taylor to serve her purposes which is to delay the proceedings." When Judge Christensen heard Mrs. Taylor was to be in Utah at that time, he asked why the trial couldn't be held then if she was to be in town. Attorneys agreed it could. The judge then set the trial dates for both cases. Ms. Barlow said later that Taylor is "just not as well as he Was. This incident (the alleged kidnapping) kidnap-ping) has caused his health to decline." de-cline." She said Mr. Taylor's mind hasnotbeenaffectedbutbecauseof his age and ill health, attorneys wanted to get his deposition. He has been diagnosed as having Parkinson's disease for a number of years, she said. Ms. Barlow said Mrs. Taylor has maintained for years that Taylor has had Alzheimer's Disease Dis-ease but none of the doctors here have verified that. She does not anticipate calling call-ing the Palmers to testify in Mrs. Taylor's trial because her trial is before theirs but the Palmers could possibly call Mrs. Taylor, she said. |
