Show Local students excel in science fair By KALYN SECRETAN "It was Fun!" Four Pleasant Grove Sixth Grade students all agreed as they emerged as winners in the BYU Central Utah Science Fair and they were all from Grovecrest School. Paul Goodman received first place and $25.00 in the Life Science category with his demonstration on how to study spelling. Jared Reams and Amy Lein weber both received second place and $10. Jared's demonstration was based on the various stages of development among birds. Amy chose to demonstrate how conditions affect plant growth. Using "babies breath," she kept plants with light or darkness, with varying degrees of moisturizer. Amy also received an additional award from Kodak for the best photographs. Angela Lisonbee received third place in the . physical science division by demonstrating how detergents reduce the surface tension of water. Mr. Wathen, a sixth grade teacher, went over to the fair on March 11 where four of the nine Grovecrest students placed. The competition was held throughout the day with about 100 students from all over Utah participating. |
