FFA holds public speaking contests By LAURA MCUNE The Pleasant Grove FFA Chapter held their annual Extemporaneous and Prepared Public Speaking contests on Feb. 25, 1987. The participants in the Extemporaneous Ex-temporaneous Centest were Brett Evans, Nolan Brooksby, Rebecca Hopkins, and Laura McUne. The participants for the Prepared Public Speaking Contest were Diana Jacob, Jodie VanZant, Dusten Nielson, Stephanie Evans, and Trent Bristol. The winners in the Extemporaneous Ex-temporaneous Contest were in first place - Brett Evans, second place, Nolan Brooksby. The winners in the Prepared Public Speaking Contest were in first place, Diana Jacob; second place, Trent Bristol. On March 3 the chapter sent the four winners to Wasatch High School for the area contest. They returned with two winners. Brett Evans took first in the Extemporaneous Ex-temporaneous contest and Ryan Wilcox took first place in the Creed Speaking Contest. The chapter's parlimentary team took second place at the area contest. The members of the team were: Brett Evans as chairman, Lori Wood as secretary, Jed Anderson, Nolan Brooksby, Brian Gillman, with Stephanie Evans as alternate. Brett Evans had two proficiency awards given to him. One in Agriculture Sales and Service and the other one in Agriculture Processing. He was also nominated for Star State Agriculture-Businessman. Agriculture-Businessman. Jed Anderson returned with two proficiency awards, one Soil and Water Conservation Con-servation and the other in Dairy Production. |
