Show Chief urges caution on Halloween Pleasant Grove Police Chief Mike Ferre urged Pleasant Grove and Lindon residents to be extra cautious Halloween night as they drive or as they trick-or-treat in the communities. He said he was primarily concerned con-cerned about traffic safety. He noted that it is often difficult to see children dressed in costumes and sometimes they will run into the roadway without warning. He encouraged parents to go with their children as much as possible. Older children should watch carefully care-fully when crossing streets. The chief also asked children to wear clothing which could be seen easily at night. Do not let them carry candle-lighted candle-lighted jack-o'-lanterns. Flashlights Flash-lights are better. Chief Ferre said there had not been many reports in past years of dangerous objects being imbedded in Halloween treats, but he suggested sug-gested that parents inspect all candy can-dy and fruit before it is consumed. If anything is found in the candy, be sure and notify the police immediately. im-mediately. It is wise for parents to know what routes their children will be taking for the trick-or-treating activity. This way they can go look for them if necessary. It is also prudent to set a time for the children to be home from their fun. Chief Ferre said parents can help children who come to their door by keeping the porch light on, greet the children at the door, remove any obstacles which might be in their way, and wrap goodies. If items are loose or handmade, put your name on the package so that parents will know where it came from. It might be wise to help your children chil-dren calm down from the excitement excite-ment when the evening is over. Help them remove costumes and make-up, inspect their treats, talk about their evening, give them a warm bath and put them to bed. |
