On Payson's next drive, PG held but the Lions elected to go for it on fourth down from punt formation. Sanderson and Fraughton came up quickly to stop the Lion runner short and PG took over on the Payson 27 yard line. On the fifth play, Henry bulled in and Mike Hanks kicked the final extra point for the 34-26 win. Henry capped off the day by intercepting in-tercepting a Lion pass and PG ran out the clock for their sixth win of the year. The sophs were 6-2 overall over-all and their Region 8 record of 5-2 was good enough to tie for the Region Re-gion sophomore championship. Trailing 14-7 at halftime, the Pleasant Grove sophomores scored 27 second half points to roll over Payson 34-26 Thursday in Payson. After trading fumbles to start the game, Payson sustained a drive with a long pass to go on top 6-0. The point after snap was wide and the Vikes smothered the attempted run. A Darrin Henry to Lynn Green pass covered 45 yards to tie the score and Jeff Swenson kicked the point after to put PG in the lead 7-6. Payson added another touchdown, touch-down, went for two points and got them, and had a 14-7 lead at half-time.. half-time.. Interceptions by Darren Brown and Marc Sanderson stopped Payson drives in the first half. The young Vikes took the second half kickoff and Chad Fraughton . broke to the east sideline and returned re-turned the ball to the Lion 45 yard line. Seven plays later, Fraughton followed Henry, Mark Richards and Mike Smith over the left side for six points. Swenson tied the game at 14 with a perfect extra point kick. It took just one play for the Lions to take the lead back following the kickoff. A 64 yard bomb made it 20-14 but the soph defense stopped the two point try. Faced with a fourth and 12 situation situa-tion from the 17 yard line, Russ VanDyke rolled left and fired as strike to tight end, Darren Livingston, Living-ston, deep in the endzone. Swen-son's Swen-son's kick was good and the Vikes were on top 21-20. PG got the ball back and tried a reverse pass. The covering official ruled the ball a fumble when Henry was hit from the blind side as he started to throw the ball. A Payson player grabbed the incomplete pass" and raced 30 yards to score. Travis Thornton hit the Payson quarterback as the Lions tried to run an option for the two points. The ball came loose and the Vikes recovered to end the try and leave the score at 26-20 with Payson leading.
