Not only has the name been changed to the Tri-City Athletic Club, but everything from aerobics to Nautilus exercise equipment, specialized classes in karate, jujitsu, self-defense and beginning gymnastics has been added. Also ground-breaking is expected in the near future for a Jacuzzi - all in addition to the regular six racquetball courts (one court with a glass viewing wall), racquetball classes, leagues and lessons. Walleyball (volleyball in a racquetball court) is also available at the new facilities. Forty-five Aerobics classes are being held in the new aerobics studio on the second floor of the facility. Professional instructors teach the classes with 20 to 22 persons per session. Classes include beginner, intermediate, in-termediate, advanced and specialized including prenatal exercise, and are held from 6 a.m. to 8:30p.m. Enrollment in the classes includes use of the jacuzzi -- expected to be available by the end of April - locker rooms, and dry sauna. The floor of the aerobics studio has been specially engineered to provide "bounce" to the action, and prevent such things as shin splints, according ac-cording to Lynn Moore, co-owner of the Tri-City Athletic Club. "The floor makes it a lot easier on your legs," Moore said. Rob Watkins, director of the Nautilus and other exercise equipment, explained a full-line of cam operated weight training equipment is featured. He said there are 12 separate stations of Nautilus, Dynamic and Paramount equipment, two sets of Olympic free weights, electronic Life Cycle bicycles, automated stair master, electronic rowing machines and more. Trainers are available at all time to provide personalized instruction and design individual exercise and weight loss programs. Watkins said each piece of equipment is designed to (tone and condition a certain muscle group. Programs can be set up for cardio vascular patients -- with the approval ap-proval of their physicians - and for the rehabilitation of surgery patients, he said. Before coming to American Fork, Watkins had been assistant manager of the Nautilus Fitness Center in St. George and manager of Pro Nautilus in Salt Lake City. Membership in the Athletic Club includes an inititation fee and a monthly maintenance fee. Those interested can sign up for the full facility or for specific areas, such as the jacuzzi. Memberships can also be single or family rates, it was noted. Located at 551 East State Road in American Fork, the Tri-City Athletic Club is owned by Earl Peck, Ron Peck and Lynn Moore. A grand opening at the facility is planned for the near future. |
