Mnn.aiHid Vii n lifnf mi n t THIS NEWLY REMODELED GYM in the just completed Community Center, 100 E. 200 S., will be put to good use next week with the grand opening of the facility scheduled for Dec. 15. A variety of activities will be offered during the opening. Community Center will be open Dec. 15 The grand opening of the Pleasant Grove Community Center will be held Dec. 15 from 10 a.m. til 10 p.m. it was announced today by the city recreation department. The old junior high school gym at 100 E. 200 S. has been completely "renovated and is now ready for use as a Multipurpose Center for the community. The renovations have been done ' and equipment installed at a cost of about $200,000 which was financed by the sale of bonds approved by the community in an election held last March. The Center sports a new floor over the original springs which made the floor one of the best in the state since the construction in the early 1900's. The girls gym .will be utilized, classrooms have been constructed, a snack bar installed, dressing rooms, restrooms and game area constructed. The renovation was done by Tom Hamann Construction and the architect for the project was Kent Walker of the Architectural Partnership. Part-nership. The grand opening will include tours of the center where visitors can visit the game center, arts and crafts center, offices, dressing rooms, large gym, small gym, multipurpose room, kitchen, etc. Visitors will learn the uses of the center and some of the plans which the recreation department has made. During the grand opening public skating will be allowed from 6 til 7 : 30 p.m. A charge of 50 cents will be made for skate rental or people may skate free with their own skates but they must have urethane wheels-. Roller skating will be a regular feature of the new center and the recreation department has pur chased skates for rent. It is hoped that this activity and others which will be held in the center will provide .recreation for everyone. During the grand opening the volleyball stands will be set up and basketball will be available, too. Sidewalks are being installed on the east side of the building, in preparation for parking stalls to be constructed later. The recreation department urges every resident of the community to attend the grand opening and become acquainted with the facilities. facil-ities. The department has planned many different kinds of activities for the Christmas holidays. Information on this will be posted and published. Class schedules and special activities information sheets will be mailed soon. Monthly calendars will also be available. |
