Show I ! Letter to the Editor j Free Movies Don't Compete i Letter to the Editor: We would like to respond to the recent letter to the editor concerning the "Children's Movie Program" sponsored by the Pleasant Grove Recreation Department's running in direct competition with the Alhambra Theatre. We feel that a public response is necessary to avoid additional ad-ditional misunderstanding and to allay any concerns raised by the letter. We agree completely that as residents of Pleasant Grove we should support our local businesses, however, we disagree completely with the statement that the "Children's Movies" we are showing compete with the teen and adult oriented movies being shown at the Alhambra Theatre. We have selected shows such as "Unidentified Flying Odd Ball," "Follow Me Boys," and "The Three Stooges Meet Hercules" etc., which are expressly for the interest of young children and their parents who are our major patrons. We have tried to make these showings affordable to large families and have made no effort to draw teenagers or adults per se. Prior to beginning this program we contacted Mr. Kelly Karr who manages the Alhambra Theatre, to see if our program would conflict with his operation. He indicated at that time he could see no conflict and encouraged us to go ahead and try showing the types of movies we had discussed. Following the letter to the editor we again contacted Mr. Karr personally to reassess his position to see if we were in fact hurting his business. He was very positive and supportive of our program, and even offered to help us acquire future movies at reduced rates. We view ourselves as a public service agency and are completely open to inquiries, suggestions, and requests from the general public. Our goal is to serve the citizens of Pleasant Grove in the best way possible. If you have concerns, observations ob-servations etc., on our programming or we can help in any way, stop in at the Recreation Office at 41 East 200 South, or call us at 785-6172, between 3 and 5 p.m. We look forward to hearing from you. A complete schedule of our summer activites is advertised in our summer brochure. These programs are available at the Recreation Office. Bill Hoglund Superintendent Parks And Recreation |
