Show City Fathers Mull Manila Annexation Tuesday Nite Problems of major importance to the people of Pleasant Grove and the Manila area were expected to be discussed and planned Tuesday night at the Pleasant Grove City Council meeting. Because of the early printing of the paper (Tuesday evening) because of the Fourth of July holiday, the Review was not able to wait and get all the facts about the meeting and what happened, but here is what was being discussed. According to reliable sources, about 70 of the Manila area residents from the south limits of Pleasant Grove north to the Cedar Hills area boundary had or will be in favor of being annexed to Pleasant Grove right now. The state of Utah has a law which says that whenever a controversial annexation takes place,, the county will appoint a board to pass or disprove the annexation. This will probably be the case here. Therefore, even if the city fathers pass favorable plans of annexing Manila area, it will probably take around 60 to 90 days to get the fact accomplished. The plans, including a map and description of the area will have to be drawn up and approved by the county board, and then an ordinance or-dinance can be passed accomplishing this annexation. The city of Cedar Hills has expressed ex-pressed a desire for the Manila area, at least north of what used to be 1600 North (the church road) be annexed to them. If this can't be done, and there are very few Manilaites wanting to go that route, then Cedar Hills would probably have to combine with Pleasant Grove also or tack on to Highland or American Fork, to become big enough to get in on the sewer and water facilities which they need. We're sorry we can't wait and get the results of the Tuesday night meeting, but will report what happened hap-pened next week in the Review. |
