Show RESPONDS TO CALL Pleasant Grove Fire Dept. responded to a couple of grass fires this week. Chief Fred Keetch urges all residents to comply with closing fire order and be careful during the long, hot dry months ahead. Fire Closing Order Effective July 2 The 1979 Wasatch Front Fire Restriction Order becomes effective Monday, July 2, 1979. The order prohibits the setting of open fires of any kind (including the use of charcoal char-coal briquets) except campfires built within facilities provided for them in permanently improved campgrounds, picnic areas, or places of habitation. Smoking is also prohibited except in improved places of habitation, recreation sites, on paved roads, or in enclosed motor vehicles. The fire restriction order is issued annually as a protection for forests and recreation areas, watersheds, and private property along the Wasatch Front. It is a cooperative effort of the Utah State Department of Forestry and Fire Control and the U.S. Forest Service. In the Utah County vicinity, the fire restriction area is generally defined as the area west of Box Elder Peak, Mt. Timpanogos, Provo Peak, Spanish Fork Peak, Payson Lakes, and the Nebo Loop Road between the mountain tops and U.S. Highway 91. Over the state the complete restriction area includes the west facing slopes of the Wasatch mountain moun-tain range from the Utah-Idaho border bor-der on the north to Nephi on the south. The canyon areas are included along with forest, state, and private lands. A pamphlet describing the exact boundaries and the complete restriction order may be obtained from the State Forestry Office or from U.S. Forest Service offices in Provo, Pleasant Grove, and Spanish Fork. The Fire Restriction Order begins this year as the weather continues hot and dry. The fire danger is high and cooperation between fire agencies agen-cies and the public will reduce the fire losses of resources and property. Fire officials wish to commend the public for help in the past years in reducing the number of fires and for their vigilance in reporting fire problems. Those planning on hiking or camping cam-ping in or near the . fire restriction areas should check with Forest Service Ser-vice or State fire agencies to be sure of fire regulations in the area. Campers Cam-pers are also urged to remind others of conditions and lake proper precautions before starting fires in any area, remembering to Always Be Careful! |
