Show Round-a-Bout Drag Races Are Exciting Dennis Stoker started Saturday's Dune Buggy races off with a bang as he beat out Dennis Schoonover for first place in his Corvair powered buggy. The 12 ton stock class ended en-ded with Larry Potts in his Dodge against Dan Woods and his Chev. Larry came out with the winners trophy. Jeff Loveland and his Chevy left Stan Baumgardner eating his dust as he took the win and trophy in the 34 ton stock class. Wayne Hansen and his big green Ford did it again as he beat out Kay Scott's Ford for the 34 ton modified class. Two old pros came up for the finals in the 12 ton modified class. Pete Campbell and Darrell Frampton showed much skill and know-how as they put the pedal to tjfee metal and flew down the strip. Darrell and his "old yeller" Chevy came out with the victory vic-tory and won the trophy. WINNER Gus Carlson and his Jeep 'Lady Luck' were winners of the Jeep Class and Top Eliminator in recent races at the Rounda-bout Drag Strip. Races are Saturday Stephen Davis won the pleasure class trophy in his blue and white Blazer. Gus Carlson had so much power in his little blue Jeep he fishtailed all the way down the track. He came out the winner in the Jeep Class plus the top Eliminator class. With all the moisture we had last week, the "Obstacle Course" turned out to be really something. The water hole the vehicles have to drive through ended up being about 3 feet deep. Half of the participants ended up stuck in the middle. mid-dle. Others were literally covered with mud. If you haven't seen this race you don't know what you're missing. Other winners were Ricky Nay in the truck class, Leon Sweat in the Jeep Class and Dennis Stoker in the Dune Buggy class. |
